The Florida Gators coaching staff has been able to get a lot of their top prospects on campus during the spring including several in-state prospects who are high on the Gators board.
Linebacker Ty Jackson (6-0, 200, Loxahatchee, FL. Seminole Ridge) was on campus on Saturday and was able to see the Gators go through their scrimmage.
“The first time we went there this year they weren’t in pads, so I had to get back and watch them in pads and scrimmage,” Jackson said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “They were doing a walk-through last time. It was good, watching my position group catching interceptions, the defense played well and were attacking the ball.”
Jackson paid close attention to the linebacker group on Saturday, and he liked the energy they brought to the scrimmage.
“A few of the guys that are returning were hurt but I was watching #22 [Duece Spurlock], #10 [Pup Howard], #16 [RJ Moten],” he said on guys he watched during the scrimmage. “The intensity was great; it was definitely more when they started hitting. The defense was hyped.”
Linebackers coach Ron Roberts spoke to Jackson on Saturday about how he would fit into the defense if he picked the Gators.
“They say that I can fit in pretty well,” Jackson said on how he fits into the defense. “I can play all three downs and fit in there. Coach Roberts is saying I can play both Mike and Will, all three downs.”
Roberts has been playing catch up with Jackson since he got to Gainesville and the linebacker says their relationship is growing.
“It’s been good,” he said on his relationship with Ron Roberts. “We’ve been contacting through text and over the phone. We’ve just been growing the relationship. He’s just teaching me more and more about the game. We also talked about things in general and not just football.”
Next up for Jackson will be official visits and the linebacker also says there is a chance he makes it back to Gainesville this weekend.
“Yes, but we’re still scheduling things out,” Jackson said on if he plans to take an official visit to Florida. “In June, I will be going to Tennessee, Florida State, Georgia, and Penn State. I should be able to come back to Florida for the spring game.”
The Gators are pushing a lot of the right buttons with Jackson in his recruitment as the linebacker continues to get comfortable with Florida.
“They’ve always been on the top of the list,” he said on where Florida stands for him. “Just trying to keep getting a feel for it, feel comfortable every time I come up. Just trying to get a better connection each time. It’s close to home and it’s a big factor and it can play a lot of roles for my family and traveling.”
