Grimsley solid with Alabama but plans to officially visit Florida

On Saturday night, the Florida Gators coaching staff hosted several recruits committed to other schools on campus for the Florida State game.

Alabama defensive back commit Jameer Grimsley (6-2, 185, Tampa, FL. Catholic) was on campus and he thought the Gators had a good chance to win the game heading into the start of the game.

“I was a little disappointed, I thought they could win this game because Jordan Travis was hurt,” Grimsley said on his thoughts on the game. “They were winning in the first half but just couldn’t put up points in the second half at all. Tough loss.”

Grimsley sees immediate need on defense for the Gators and he likes the fact that he could play early in Gainesville if he was to flip to Florida.

“There were some bright lights in the secondary,” he said on things he liked from Florida on Saturday. “They do need help and I don’t know; they just have to play better and get tougher. I guess it’s good that you can come in here and compete early because they’re a little big weak in the secondary and some dudes are graduating so it’s a little open to coming in and playing fast.”

Despite the need for defensive backs, Grimsley says there are other things that Billy Napier must fix around the program.

“It’s more than just the defensive backs that need to be fixed,” Grimsley said. “There are some other things that need to be changed for this program to get back to where they usually are.”

Next up for Grimsley will be an official visit to Gainesville where he will sit down with the staff and see what their plans are for him.

“December 8th,” he said on when he will take an official visit to Florida. “That’s the only other visit. I just have to hear them out and see what they have to say and that’s really it. Just experience the school, that’s all I’m trying to see.”

Despite taking an official visit to Gainesville, Grimsley says his commitment to Alabama is solid because of several factors.

“I’m pretty solid with that commitment,” Grimsley said of his status with Alabama. “Just because they figure out ways to get it done you know. They fight through adversity, and I want to be a part of something big and something special. I think they can develop me as a great corner and a high draft pick in the near future.”
