Florida had 26 players enter the transfer portal from their 2022 roster, four of which entered the portal before the end of the season. Four players transferred to SEC teams while 18 transferred to P5 programs.
Gator Country tracks the production of every player that left Florida’s program in 2022. The following players are in order from earliest to enter the portal to latest.
LS Marco Ortiz – Nebraska
Long snapper Marco Ortiz was the first Gator to enter the portal in 2022, later committing to Nebraska. Ortiz has handled all of Nebraska’s long-snapping duties in every game this season. Ortiz ranks as the 9th best special teams player on Nebraska, logging 50 snaps on both punt and kicking units. Ortiz has not recorded a tackle.
OL Joshua Braun – Arkansas
Josh Braun has started all seven games at offensive guard for the Razorbacks, posting a respectable 73.3 offensive grade, ranking 1st among Arkansas offensive linemen, according to Pro Football Focus. Braun ranks first in pass block with a grade of 79.0 and second in run block with a grade of 72.2. Braun has played in 441 snaps this season. Braun ranks as the 28th best guard in college football among eligible participants, and the 15th in the power five.
WR Trent Whittemore – UCF
Trent Whittemore has played 78 snaps across all six games with the Knights but has failed to record a catch in 2023. Whittemore found the majority of his snaps against Kent State and Villanova but dropped his lone target on the season in week one. Whittemore grades as the 36th best player on UCF’s offense.
OL Griffin McDowell – Chattanooga
After changes positions twice at Florida, McDowell has found a home at offensive line with the Mocs. McDowell has started in all seven games at offensive tackle for Chattanooga, logging 498 snaps, tied for the most on the Mocs’ offense. McDowell has posted an offensive grade of 70.1, the third highest on Chattanooga’s offensive line. McDowell’s pass block grade of 79.7 ranks 4th on the Mocs’ offense and third on their offensive line. McDowell is a member of the Shrine Bowl 1000 Watch List.
RB Nay’Quan Wright – USF
Nay’Quan Wright is leading the Bulls’ backfield in 2023 with 90 carries for 404 yards and three rushing touchdowns. Wright is averaging a team high 4.5 yards per carry. Wright has added six receptions for 22 yards through the air. As USF’s starting running back in four games, Wright has posted an offensive grade of 74.1, the highest grade on the Bulls’ offense. Wright has also posted respectable pass and run block grades, landing in the top five of both categories.
CB Avery Helm – TCU
Avery Helm has appeared in all seven games for the Horned Frogs, logging the third most snaps amongst TCU cornerbacks (290). Helm has 18 tackles (12 solo), one sack, one forced fumble, and four pass deflections. Helm has allowed 16 catches for 211 yards on 28 targets. Helm has yet to allow a TD in 2023.
Helm ranks 22nd on TCU’s defense with a grade of 65.3.
WR Daejon Reynolds – Pittsburgh
Daejon Reynolds has appeared in all six games for the Panthers, logging 181 snaps, the third most amongst Pitt wide receivers. Reynolds has combined for eight receptions, 80 yards while adding one carry for one yard.
Reynolds ranks 8th on the Panthers in route running, while grading as the 21st best offensive player with a grade of 56.0.
RB Lorenzo Lingard – Akron
Lorenzo Lingard is leading the Zips backfield with 66 carries for 332 yards and a touchdown. His 5.0 yards per carry is a team high. Lingard has also been very effective as a pass catcher, hauling in 20 receptions for 207 yards and a touchdown. Lingard ranks 1st in rushing yards and 3rd in receiving yards on Akron.
His offensive grade of 71.4 ranks 1st on Akron’s offense.
EDGE Chief Borders – Nebraska
Borders has appeared in every game as an edge rusher for the Cornhuskers but has not logged a start in 2023. In 122 defensive snaps, Borders has totaled eight tackles (two solo) and one pass deflection, the first and only of his career.
Borders ranks 24th on Nebraska’s defense, posting a defensive grade of 59.1. Borders has not missed a tackle this season, grading as the third best tackler on Nebraska. Borders’ win rate is 5.5%, which is the 5th highest amongst Nebraska edge rushers. Borders has three QB hurries in 2023.
EDGE David Reese – CAL
Edge rusher David Reese has appeared in all six games for Cal including his first two career starts. Reese’s 211 snaps mark the third most amongst Cal edge rushers.
Reese has contributed 12 tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack, and a team high four quarterback hurries in 2023.
Reese grades as the 18th best defensive player on the Golden Bears’ defense while holding the 4th highest pressure grade on the team (68.8). Reese’s win rate is 13.1%, which would rank as the 2nd highest on the Gators’ 2023 defense.
S Donovan McMillon – Pittsburgh
As Pittsburgh’s starting safety, McMillon has logged 295 snaps, the third most in the Panthers’ secondary and second most among safeties. McMillon has logged 49 tackles (22 solo) and one pass break up in 2023.
McMillon grades out as Pittsburgh’s 3rd best defensive player, holding top 4 grades in defense, tackling, and coverage for the Panthers.
In coverage, McMillon has allowed five receptions for 74 yards on eight targets. McMillon has one dropped interception on the season, according to PFF.
OL Yousef Mugharbil – NC State
Has not appeared in any games.
S Kamar Wilcoxson – Temple
Kamar Wilcoxson has appeared in five games for the Owls this season including his first career start in Temple’s home opener vs Akron. The safety has recorded five tackles (1 solo) in 83 snaps, the third most snaps in Temple’s safety room. Wilcoxson has allowed four receptions for 92 yards and a touchdown on six targets, working to a coverage grade of 42.7, the 25th highest on the Owls’ defense. Wilcoxson has missed three tackles this season, posting a team low tackling grade of 26.8.
DL Jalen Lee – LSU
Lee has appeared in five games for the Tigers this season, totaling two tackles and one fumble recovery across 31 snaps. Lee’s defensive grade of 59.5 ranks 35th on LSU’s defense.
TE Nick Elksnis – South Carolina
Elksnis has appeared in two games this season for the Gamecocks but has not recorded a catch in 20 offensive snaps. In minimal opportunities, Elksnis has posted an offensive grade of 77.0, the 4th highest on South Carolina’s offense. At the start of the season, Elksnis was listed as the 2nd string tight end for Shane Beamer’s squad, however, he has the third most snaps among SC tight ends. It is unclear if Elksnis’ lack of playing time is injury related.
EDGE Diwun Black – Temple
Diwun Black has appeared in six games this season including his first career start vs Miami, totaling 16 tackles (11 solo), 3.5 sacks, and one forced fumble. Black’s 162 snaps are the 4th most amongst Temple edge rushers. Black has registered 9 QB hurries and 3 QB hits, leading to a win rate of 15.7%, a team high amongst players with more than 50 pass rush snaps. Black’s defensive grade of 75.4 ranks 2nd on the Owls’ defense. Black was named a preseason All-AAC linebacker by Phil Steele.
EDGE Lloyd Summerall – USF
Summerall has appeared in six games for the Bulls this season, totaling 20 tackles (8 solo), four tackles for loss, one sack, and three QB hurries. Summerall has logged 227 snaps, the third most among USF edge rushers. His defensive grade of 68.2 ranks 10th on the Bulls’ defense among players with 50+ snaps, according to PFF.
S Corey Collier – Nebraska
Corey Collier has played in three games this season but has not recorded a tackle across 18 snaps. His defensive grade is 54.4, according to PFF.
DL Chris Thomas – Marshall
Thomas has appeared in three games for Marshall, recording one tackle across 24 snaps. Marshall is playing DT and NT for Marshall. Thomas’ defensive grade is 54.6.
OL Michael Tarquin – USC
Tarquin has appeared in seven games at tackle for the Trojans, logging 252 snaps, the 2nd most amongst tackles. While Tarquin started the season as USC’s starting RT, he has lost snaps to Mason Murphy in recent weeks, who has seemingly taken over at the position, logging 51 and 67 snaps at RT the last two weeks.
Tarquin has allowed one sack and six QB hurries, working to an offensive grade of 69.1, which ranks 10th on USC’s offense among players with 50+ snaps, according to PFF.
CB Jordan Young – Cincinnati
Jordan Young has appeared in all six games as Cincinnati’s starting cornerback, totaling 13 tackles and five pass breakups across a team high 344 defensive snaps. Young has allowed 17 receptions for 397 yards and two touchdowns on 34 targets, leading to a coverage grade of 54.2. Young’s run defense grade of 75.6 ranks 2nd on the Bearcats’ defense. His overall defensive grade of 57.1 ranks 27th on Cincinnati’s defense.
OL Ethan White – TBD
White is not currently on a college football team after originally transferring to USC.
DB Tre’vez Johnson – Missouri
Johnson has appeared in all seven games with the Missouri Tigers, totaling 18 tackles (12 solo) at the STAR and safety positions. Johnson has allowed 11 receptions for 134 yards on 13 targets, leading to a coverage grade of 52.6, the 8th highest in the Tigers’ secondary. Johnson has missed 7 tackles on the season, the second most on the Cincinatti defense. Johnon’s defensive grade of 55.2 ranks 22nd on the Bearcats’ defense.
OL David Connor – Colorado
Connor has not appeared in a game this season for Colorado.
WR Xzaiver Henderson – Cincinnati
Henderson has started in all six games with the Bearcats, totaling 30 receptions, 414 yards with one touchdown across 366 snaps, the most among Cincinnati wide receivers. Henderson’s offensive grade of 72.9 ranks 4th amongst Bearcats with 50+ snaps while his passing grade of 73.7 is a team high. Henderson has one drop this season and has primarily lined up as Cincinatti’s outside receiver. Henderson has also served as Cincinatti’s kick returner, logging six returns for 110 yards with a long of 26.
EDGE Antwuan Powell – Ryland – Virginia Tech
Powell-Ryland has appeared in all seven games for the Hokies, recording 25 tackles (14 solo), a team high seven sacks, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery across 314 snaps, the most by a VT edge rusher.
Powell-Ryland has added 20 QB hurries and two QB hits, leading to an impressive pressure grade of 88.2, which ranks 11th in the FBS amongst edge rushers, according to PFF.
