On Friday night, several of the Florida Gators’ commits were in Gainesville for Friday Night Lights including several of the newest commits.
Defensive line commit Michai Boireau (6-5, 370, Hampton, GA. Creekside) committed to Florida a week ago and he said the decision to commit to the Gators over Georgia came down to one thing in particular.
“It was just when I went on my official visit here, I felt love here that I really didn’t feel from other schools,” Boireau said on why he committed to Florida. “Ever since I got out of the van it was all love from there, even when I got home coach was texting my phone every morning sending me scriptures and motivational quotes.”
Florida was also able to show Boireau that Florida has more to offer than just football and they were able to help him with his future major.
“I just feel like Florida showed love and really showed me the whole aspects,” he said on what made Florida different than Georgia. “Not just athletics but also academics. Florida is number five in academics in public schools while Georgia is 16. When I went to Florida, they literally sat down and helped me figure out what I want to do in engineering. With Georgia, it was just you’re going to be doing mechanical engineering so here’s what we have for you.”
The Gators’ coaching staff were recruiting Boireau earlier than most schools and those relationships paid off in a big way.
“It helped a lot,” Boireau said on how much the relationships at Florida helped them. “Florida is where I felt the relationship was strong. I would rather have a strong relationship with a coach than just have a coach who is there to coach me. I want to have a personal relationship with the coach, and I felt that with Coach James, Coach [Sean] Spencer, and even Coach [Billy] Napier.”
Boireau was one of seven commits last week for the Gators and he says he’s continuing to recruit others to join him in Gainesville.
“It’s actually been fun,” he said on Florida adding a lot of recruits. “I’ve been going out here looking for guys to come to Florida because we want to make history. We want to be here when they add another national championship on that board.”
