This past weekend, several highly regarded prospects were in Gainesville for official visits including a defensive line target that the Florida Gators are high on.
Defensive lineman Michai Boireau (6-5, 390, Hampton, GA. Creekside) was on campus and the visit beat his expectations.
“I came in here, what I thought I was going to see, this was way better,” Boireau said of his visit to Florida. “I had a great experience, everybody felt real and genuine. I just had a great time.”
Boireau visited Gainesville back in the spring, but he says this time was good as he was able to spend more time around the coaches and get to know them better.
“It was good, over the phone and in-person is two different things,” he said on talking with the coaches. “Coming here, getting to spend time with Coach [Sean] Spencer, Coach [Billy] Napier and Coach James, it’s always great. Coach Spencer is Coach Spencer, his energy is always great. He feels like a father figure to me.”
Defensive line coach Sean Spencer broke down just how they plan to use Boireau if he comes to Florida and the lineman likes the Gators’ plan.
“A lot of colleges will say I’m just a nose but Coach Spencer he made everything seem genuine,” Boireau said on the message from Spencer. “He wants to use me at not just at nose but 3-technique too. He wants to move me around to a 2i too. I’m very high on versatility, I feel like I’m not just a nose.”
Boireau had Florida, Georgia, and Ole Miss all standing out to him heading into the visit, but he says that changed after this official visit to Gainesville.
“Florida is at the top,” he said on where Florida stands in his recruitment. “I’ve been to Georgia; I’ve talked to Ole Miss and Michigan on the phone. I just feel like Florida is the realest that I’ve talked to. It’s a pretty big lead.”
Heading into his June 19th decision, Boireau says he knows what he’s looking for in a college.
“Just the energy and how my mom feels about it,” Boireau said on what’s important to him in making a decision. “She’s a big part in this recruitment. If she feels like it’s good and I feel like it’s good.
INSIDERS TAKE: Boireau says he will visit Georgia this weekend and then will make a decision on June 19th. Boireau says he plans to return to Florida on July 29th for the Gators cookout.
