Billy Napier and the Florida Gators are trying to add as many playmakers as they can in the Class of 2024 and last weekend, they hosted several prospects that fit that label.
Receiver Caleb Odom (6-5, 215, Carrollton, GA. High) was on campus and enjoyed his time around campus.
“It was a great visit,” Odom said of his visit to Florida. “Just being here in Gainesville, driving around and seeing everything. It really kind of felt at home.”
Receivers coach Billy Gonzales broke down just how the Gators will use Odom if he comes to Florida for college.
“He was basically just reassuring me about everything,” Odom said on the message from Gonzales. “We watched a lot of film on how I could be used in this offense. He wanted to know if I had any questions or concerns. They mostly want me at receiver, really everything, multiple roles.”
Odom who was once being recruited as a tight end has been compared to former Gator Kyle Pitts and Gonzales compared them during the visit.
“He had like his whole draft layout, his stats, his height and weight,” he said on Gonzales comparing him to Kyle Pitts. “His measurements and everything laid out for me so I could compare mine to his. They were similar and he was comparing me and showing me some clips from Kyle Pitts.”
The Gators had dropped out of the top group of schools for Odom but recently reentered the mix and that’s because of Billy Napier.
“What put Florida back in there is the relationship I built with Coach Napier,” Odom said on what he likes about Florida. “Coach [Russ] Calloway when they were still recruiting me at tight end came to my practices, but I feel me, and Coach Billy G have built a good relationship. It’s the Swamp, it’s a great place.”
Last week, Odom named Alabama his leader, but he says the Gators are making a charge after this weekend.
“Florida is definitely pushing now, they’re definitely up there,” he said on where Florida stands with him. “I might be able to get back down for July 29th for the cookout thing.”
Next up for Odom will be more official visits and then he will likely make his college decision after those visits.
“I’m going to Auburn for a midweek, then Miami is the last weekend,” Odom said. “Late summer, July. So that will probably be it for visits.”
