The Florida Gators had several of their commits in town this weekend to help recruit others but also to sure up their commitment status with the Gators.
Defensive back commit Ja’Keem Jackson (6-1, 180, Kissimmee, FL. Osceola) was on campus and the Gators made sure to show him that Gainesville is the place for him.
“It was good, me and my family were just making sure that Florida was the right spot for me,” Jackson said of his visit to Florida. “Florida is the right spot for me. It was a good visit, a good experience.”
Jackson has been on campus a lot this summer and fall but he was able to see a different side of Florida during the visit.
“The apartments, we got to see where we will be staying,” he said on what he saw differently this time. “We were with the players most of the time too. My host Jason [Marshall] was telling me good things about the coaches.”
Cornerbacks coach Corey Raymond and defensive coordinator Patrick Toney broke down how they see Jackson fitting into the defense next year.
“They were just showing me different ways they could use me on the defense,” Jackson said on his meetings with the staff. “Showing me different techniques and all of that. They showed me how I would benefit from the defense at corner.”
Head coach Billy Napier met with Jackson on Sunday and explained to both him and his parents how impressed the coaching staff was of the defensive back.
“He was just happy with my progress from June until now,” he said on his meeting with Napier. “He said I had a good season and he was very impressed. He was telling my parents he was proud of the way they raised me as a young man.”
Miami has been working hard on Jackson over the last month or so, but the defensive back says he knows where he’s going.
“I’ve known Florida was the place for me, but I just had to make sure everything was good,” Jackson said on his commitment to Florida.
Jackson who was recruiting his teammate John Walker this weekend believes that this Gators’ class has a chance to be a special one.
“I think we’re building a good class,” he said. “We should win a national championship in two to three years.”
