Saturday was one of the biggest recruiting days in recent history for the Florida Gators as Billy Napier and his staff welcomed several big-time prospects on campus.
Outside linebacker Isaiah Nixon (6-4, 215, St. Petersburg, FL. Lakewood) was on campus and likes everything about the school.
“Florida is a great school,” Nixon said of his visit to Florida. “They have construction going on that I want to see during the summer, it’s going to be fun to see. The school is one of my top choices, a great school, love the football program and coaches. I loved everything.”
Outside linebackers coach Mike Peterson spent the most time with Nixon on Saturday and he likes the history Peterson has coaching.
“Coach [Mike] Peterson,” he said on who he spent the most time around. “He’s a great coach, he coached at South Carolina, he had a lot of players he coached go to the NFL and that’s where I’m trying to be at. I’m looking forward to him maybe being my future coach.”
Peterson also explained to Nixon on Saturday just where he would fit into the defense if he picked Florida for college.
“They want me at the outside linebacker spot,” Nixon said on where Peterson wants him at. “They also want me to rush the quarterback on third down, third and long I will be standing up with my speed and quickness.”
After visiting Florida, Nixon says the Gators are one of his top five teams now and he says it’s because of the coaching staff.
“I like how the coaches-built relationships with me,” Nixon said on what he likes about Florida. “They want me here bad because they like my size and playing skills. Florida is a great school and I’m looking forward to coming back here for an official visit.”
Next up for Nixon will be a return trip to Gainesville in a few months for an official visit.
“During the summer around June or July,” he said on when he plans to take an official visit to Florida. “I’m going to Georgia on June 6th.”
The Gators have a lot of tough competition for Nixon as two SEC schools and a rival are in the mix for Nixon.
“UCF, Georgia, FSU, LSU, and Florida,” Nixon said on schools he’s looking at. “I’m going to visit Miami on the 26th and Georgia on the 19th.”
INSIDERS TAKE: Nixon hopes to decide before the start of his senior year.
