Last week, the Florida Gators coaching staff sent out a flurry of offers to prospects in the state of Georgia as they’re looking forward to getting several prospects on campus this week.
Safety Jalon Kilgore (6-1, 193, Eatonton, GA. Putnam County) was one of those guys offered by Florida after he talked to the head coach himself.
“Coach [Kareem] Reid was communicating with me and keeping me updated but Coach [Billy] Napier offered me,” Kilgore said. “He said he liked my speed and size and how I can move from side to side. He likes how I flip my hips and get downhill.”
Kilgore admits he wasn’t expecting an offer from Florida so soon but he’s starting to look into what Florida has to offer.
“It means a lot, I was shocked” he said on what the offer means to him. “I didn’t know a lot about Florida but I’m starting to do my research on them now. I heard they have all new recruiters on staff.”
While on the phone with Napier last week, the head coach explained to Kilgore just how the staff sees him fitting into the defense.
“He said he would like me at safety,” Kilgore said on where Napier wants him to play. “He said he could put me at the nickel and move me around. Stuff like that, he thinks I’m a good fit.”
This was the first time for Kilgore to talk with Napier, but he admits that their relationship is growing now that he has the offer.
“They’re real cool guys,” he said on his impressions of the staff. “They make sure to keep in touch with me every week so we can keep a good connection. They’re telling me about the program and the new facilities.”
Next up for Kilgore will be a visit to Gainesville this weekend as he wants to see what Florida has to offer.
“March 5th,” Kilgore said on when he plans to visit Florida. “I’m trying to see if it feels like home, see how everyone is and how it fits me.”
