Sherrill hired as director of college personnel

Bird Sherrill has been hired as the Gators’ director of college personnel, head coach Billy Napier announced on Monday.

In this role, Sherrill will oversee UF’s recruitment of transfer portal players and junior college prospects. He will report to Director of Player Personnel Jacob LaFrance, who will oversee the program’s entire recruiting operation.

Sherrill, a Mooresville, Alabama, native, worked for the Detroit Lions for the last six seasons. He was a scouting assistant in 2016 and 2017 before being promoted to a scout in 2018. He assisted with several player personnel projects, including evaluation and production of scouting reports, annual draft preparation and free agency acquisitions.

He started his career as a student recruiting assistant at Alabama in 2013. He worked alongside Napier on the Crimson Tide’s 2015 national championship team. He graduated in 2016 and got his job with the Lions shortly thereafter.
