The Florida Gators have been handing out a few new underclassmen offers over the last few weeks as they continue to build their board for the 2022 class.
On Sunday, the Gators offered 2022 defensive back Xavier Nwankpa (6-2, 175, Altoona, IA. Southeast Polk) after he spoke with recruiting analyst on Sunday.
“Coach [Keiwan] Ratliff was the one who offered me,” Nwankpa said of who offered him on Sunday. “He said he loved my film and he wants to get me down on campus soon to visit.”
Nwankpa says he has talked to Florida before but Sunday’s news shocked the 2022 defensive back.
“I was super surprised and in ah,” he said on his reaction of picking up the offer. “It means a lot to me as they’re one of the teams that I grew up watching on TV and playing with on the old NCAA games.”
When Nwankpa spoke with Ratliff on Sunday, the Gators assistant didn’t get into a specific position for him but did say what the Gators like out of Nwankpa.
“He didn’t really specify a position yet,” Nwankpa said. “He just said that they like my versatility, ability to do a lot, my ball skills and they like my athleticism. He said that I would help with the fast paced SEC offenses.”
Nwankpa hasn’t visited Gainesville yet but he says he’s looking into finding out more on Florida has to offer.
“They were tied for sixth in the nation in interceptions last year and they typically run a 4-3 defense,” he said on what he knows about Florida. “I don’t know much more actually.”
The defensive back says the Gators are a school he will keep in touch with and several others are also recruiting him hard early in his recruitment.
“I’m very interested, a school I’ll keep showing interest in,” Nwankpa said of his interest in Florida. “Missouri, Iowa, Iowa State and Notre Dame are recruiting me hard too.”
