Several of the Florida Gators 2021 commits visited Gainesville on Saturday for junior day to help the coaching staff recruit.
2021 quarterback commit Carlos Del Rio (6-2, 201, Loganville, GA. Grayson) was one of those commits in town and he liked the new design for junior day.
“The visit was great, it was a great visit,” Del Rio said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “They did a little scavenger hunt to tour the campus. That was a little different and fun activity.”
Quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson spent a lot of time with Del Rio explaining to him what it’s like to be a quarterback at the next level.
“It was a great conversation, it was a little more personal with the game,” he said on his conversation with Brian Johnson. “We talked about critics, people talking about the game that don’t play, just don’t worry about them, focus on improving my position.”
Johnson explained to Del Rio how his game fits what Florida wants to do on offense and how he can develop his game.
“He tells me that he can relate me to the quarterback they had recently and the quarterback they’re looking for,” Del Rio said of his talks with Johnson about fitting into the offense. “He says there’s room to improve my game and to be better than the quarterbacks they have now.”
Head coach Dan Mullen also talked with Del Rio about the experience and about what he needs to do in order to compete at Florida.
“It was just love and asking me questions,” he said on his talks with Mullen. “He asked how everything went, if it was fun and what was the experience like. He asked what I would like to see and stuff like that. He always tells me to come in and be ready to compete.”
Del Rio says his relationship with the Gators coaching staff is good and is getting better.
“Once I committed, it became more of a personal relationship,” Del Rio said of his relationship with the staff. “It has been getting a little more personal, text messages daily and the calls.”
The quarterback commit says he believes it’s the quarterbacks job to help recruit and he was doing just that on Saturday.
“I was recruiting Daejon Reynolds, he’s one of my receivers,” he said on who he was recruiting on Saturday. “I was talking to another receiver, and some offensive and defensive linemen.”
Del Rio has picked up some recent offers as of late but the quarterback says right now he’s just focused on returning to Gainesville for more visits.
“Not really but if anything pops, I don’t know,” Del Rio said on if he will visit any other schools. “I just like coming back to Florida, Florida is the home for me.”
