Special report on the Florida Gators lacrosse team:
ELON, N.C. – The 16th-ranked Florida Gators are on the road for a contest with the Elon Phoenix on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Rudd Field.
This is the third-consecutive road game for the Gators and the first time this season the team will not be facing a ranked opponent.
The Gators are coming off a tightly contested battle with No. 17 Navy, dropping the 14-13 decision at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, while Elon dropped its last contest to No. 15 Duke, 18-15.
This is the first meeting between the two squads, with Elon having only started its program in 2014. The Gators are 5-6 against North Carolina teams in program history, including a 4-4 record in the state of North Carolina.
While Florida has a break in facing IWLCA Top-25 opponents this week, the team has competed against four thus far in the 2019 campaign and will face four more ranked teams before entering conference play. The Gators will play host to No. 4 Syracuse, No. 3 North Carolina and No. 9 Princeton in a seven-day span and then will travel to No. 18 Stony Brook.
