The Florida Gators handed out several 2020 offers on Wednesday to prospects from all over the country.
2020 safety RJ Mickens (6-1, 188, Southlake, TX. Southlake Carroll) was one of those guys that picked up an offer from Florida on Wednesday night.
“Coach [Dan] Mullen offered me,” Mickens said of which coach from Florida offered him on Wednesday night. “He just said how much they wanted me at Florida and he was checking up on me.”
Mickens who has over 20 offers already called his offer from Florida a big one to him because of his relationship with the coaching staff.
“It’s a huge one,” he said on what the offer means to him. “It means a lot the coaches write me and show me a lot of love with the edits and mail.”
When Mullen offered Mickens on Wednesday night, the Gators head coach also had a message to the safety about why Florida needs him.
“Just that I could make an impact at defensive back,” Mickens said on the message from Mullen. “He said they love my playing style and that they’re going to recruit me hard and I’m one of their top guys.”
Safeties coach Ron English is another coach that has been in contact with Mickens so far in his recruitment.
“Coach English is the one talking to me some but I mainly talk to Coach Mullen,” he said on the coaches he talks too. “ Coach English just says he likes the way I play and he has been following me and I could make an impact for them.”
Mickens hasn’t visited Florida yet but the Texas safety knows about the DBU history in Gainesville.
“They’ve had some great ones come through,” Mickens said of Florida’s history with defensive backs. “They ball out and I like the way they play.”
Now that the Gators have offered Mickens, the safety is trying to plan out trips and Gainesville is one place he would like to visit.
“Yes, I plan on it,” he said on if he plans on visiting Florida.
