The Florida Gators are trying to get back to the old times of landing the top prospects from the Jacksonville area and on Saturday they hosted several prospects from that area in the Swamp for the LSU game.
2020 cornerback Miles Brooks (6-2, 171, Jacksonville, FL. Trinity Christian) was one of those guys in the Swamp and he enjoyed the atmosphere.
“The atmosphere was crazy, definitely the best I’ve been too,” Brooks said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “It was exciting to be here, it was a great game.”
Brooks watched the Gators defensive backs closely on Saturday and liked what he seen from one guy in particular.
“They weren’t giving up many passes,” he said of Florida’s defensive backs. “CJ Henderson was locking down as usual. The pick six at the end of the game, basically sealed it. They’re doing what they do best, which is cover.”
Defensive backs coach Charlton Warren and head coach Dan Mullen spoke at length with Brooks on Saturday about needing him in next year’s class.
“I talked to Coach Warren and Coach Mullen,” Brooks said of the coaches he spoke too. “Just that I can come in and make a very early impact and that they would like for both me and Fred [Davis] to come here. They were telling me what it’s like to be a Gator and that the atmosphere is like this almost every game.”
Brooks knows several of the recruits that were in the Swamp on Saturday and he spent time with one guy in particular before and after the game.
“We sat next to them when we were out there watching the game,” Brooks said of hanging out with the recruits. “I talked to Jaydon [Hill] in the locker room, we got to connect with each other and got to know each other more.”
The Gators cornerback commit Jaydon Hill was giving Brooks a pitch about needing him in the secondary with him in the Swamp.
“He wanted me to commit today,” he said of Hill’s message to him. “I’m still weighing my options but he’s definitely selling me and telling me what’s like here and what it’s like to be committed here. He was saying what we could do together if I come here.”
Brooks who hasn’t taken many visits this year has a few games and places he wants to get to know to finish up the year.
“I want to get to Georgia for the game against Auburn, I want to get to Virginia Tech for their homecoming,” Brooks said of visits coming up for him. “I’ll probably try to get to Miami, Alabama and then I’m going to try to get back to Ohio State. I’ll definitely be back to Florida.”
The 2020 cornerback is one of the most sought after prospects in the country for next year but he has the Gators high on his list.
“They’re really where they are at, they’re pretty high,” he said on where Florida is in his recruitment. “I’m still weighing my options, I have one more season so I’m still feeling out what will be best for me.”
