Saturday was a big day for the Florida Gators as they hosted their second scrimmage and also hosted several big prospects on campus.
Included in those prospects on campus was athlete Aubrey Scott (5-10, 165, Stonewall, LA. North Desoto) who made his first visit to Gainesville.
“It was great,” Scott said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “Amazing coaching staff, beautiful facilities, high energy practice and the swamp is the swamp. We had a jersey photo shoot and toured the facilities. I met some great coaches and watched the scrimmage.”
While on campus, Scott got the chance to meet with running backs coach Greg Knox about how the Gators would use the athlete.
“He said he see’s me as a utility back,” he said of the message he received from Knox. “He said he loved what he saw on film. He said I’m a guy they he can throw in the slot as well as a guy they can hand the ball to. He said I’ll also be returning kicks and punts which is great because that’s my speciality.”
This was the first time for Knox and Scott to meet each other and the Gators assistant left a big impression on the athlete.
“Oh he’s a great guy from what I’ve seen. A great coach,” Scott said of Knox. “He’s very involved in practice.”
Head coach Dan Mullen also met with Scott for the first time on Saturday.
“He just said it was very nice to finally meet me,” Scott said of the message from Mullen. “He said he looks forward to seeing me around more often. He likes what I bring to the table.”
Scott also got the chance to watch the scrimmage on Saturday and he was impressed by the energy of the scrimmage.
“I was very impressed. The Intensity was high and it was exciting to watch,” he said on the scrimmage and energy of the staff. “The staff was fired up. Very very involved into practice emotionally. It was intense and they were having a good time. The energy is definitely coming back to the swamp.”
The athlete watched the offense closely on Saturday and Scott now feels like he would be a good fit in the Gators offense.
“I feel I would fit into the offense well to be honest,” he said on how he would fit into the offense. “They passed the ball a lot as well as ran the ball a lot. I can go either or. Slot or running back so I feel that gives me an advantage to play more.”
Heading into the visit Florida was high in Scott’s mind and the Gators are still high up their after the visit.
“As of now everyone has a fair shot. But Florida has definitely put itself in a good position,” Scott said of leaders. “I’ll more than likely make a decision early to late August or early September is the latest.”
