The Florida Gators hosted two prospects committed to Florida State on Saturday including one who was on campus for the first time this fall on Saturday.
Florida State defensive end Quashon Fuller (6-3, 277, Lehigh Acres, FL. Senior) was on campus on Saturday and enjoyed watching the comeback.
“It was amazing,” Fuller said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “I never would expected a team to keep playing like that but it’s pretty rare to see a team keep pushing to get a W [win].”
Fuller watched one defensive end in particular on Saturday and he liked the way the Gators used him on defense.
“[Jachai] Polite,” he said which guy he was watching the most on Saturday. “I liked to see that he can play more than one position. That’s one thing that I want to be able to do when I get to the next level and he’s able to make plays everywhere.”
After the game was over Fuller spoke with the Gators coaching staff who explained just how the Gators would use him on defense if he came to Florida.
“They want me as a edge rusher in the Polite role,” Fuller said on Florida wants him to play. “I feel like I can be very affective and I feel like if I just do my job and work hard then I’ll be able to play. I want to be that player that’s a run stopper that can also pass rush. Just have more things to offer.”
Fuller sees a fit for him on the defense and likes how multiple the Gators are on defense under defensive coordinator Todd Grantham.
“I feel like with that defense it’s pretty good,” he said on if he feels like he’s a fit into the defense. “They actually can do a 30 front and if they need too they can go to a 40 or 50 front. I just feel like I can work with all of those because that’s what I do at my high school and I feel like it’s a perfect fit.”
The Florida State commit also got a quick message from head coach Dan Mullen about helping the Gators in the future.
“They just say that they’re excited that I’m here,” Fuller said on the coaches’ message to him. “They’re just ready to win a national championship and they want me to me to come help them out.”
Next up for Fuller is a visit to the school he’s committed to, plus he has official visits coming up.
“I’m going to be at the Florida State versus Florida game,” he said on upcoming visits. “All of my officials will be in December. For my visits it will be Miami, Florida State, Florida Gators, Alabama and Auburn.”
Fuller who hasn’t been to Tallahassee since the summer says that he’s still committed but left the door open to others.
“Florida State, I feel like my commitment is there,” Fuller said on his commitment to Florida State. “If I had to put a number on it, I was say 70 or 60 percent.”
In order for Florida or any other team to jump Florida State, Fuller says that they must do one thing.
“To jump Florida State, you have to get my mom on board,” Fuller said on what Florida and others have to do in order to flip him. “She’s not the biggest Florida fan, I feel like you have to get her on campus and show her that Florida is actually going to put her son in good hands.”
Fuller does admit that the Gators could get his mom on board but it’s all about getting her on campus.
“Yes, I feel like they can,” he said on if he thinks Florida can change her mind. “I feel like they care when I’m here and stuff like that. Every time I call them they’re always asking for my mom and she always says she’s doing something. I feel like if she gets up here that it will be perfect and she will like it.”
INSIDERS TAKE: Fuller has genuine interest in the Gators but his mom was upset about the lack of interest when they visited under the last coaching staff. Mullen and his coaching staff have to show Fuller’s mom that this is a new staff that cares about her and her son.
