WCWS Photo Gallery: Gators vs. Cajuns

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Gator Country was the only Florida media outlet to have a photographer at the Women's College World Series as the Gators' made the first appearance in the program's 12-year history. Here's the first of five photo galleries, featuring more than 250 images you won't find anywhere else.

The Gators dropped the opening game of the 2008 WCWS to the La.-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns 3-2 in eight innings.

Florida opening the scoring on an RBI double by Corrie Brooks in the second inning, then added another run in the fourth on an RBI double by Aja Paculba.

ULL senior Holly Tankersley hit her team-leading 22nd home run of the season in the top of the eighth inning. It was just the second home run allowed by Florida pitcher Stacey Nelson all season. The Cajuns tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth inning on a two-run double by Vanessa Soto.

UF freshman designated player Tiffany DeFelice scored the first run of the game for the Gators after walking in her first at bat. In her final at bat, she faced 23 pitches before flying out to center field.

Florida All-American first baseman Ali Gardiner batted 1-for-2 with a pair of walks. Francesca Enea and Kristina Hilberth also had a hit for UF.

Nelson pitched 7.2 innings in the loss, allowing eight hits and three runs on a walk and six strikeouts. Stephanie Brombacher pitched the final out for the Gators after allowing a single.

ULL freshman pitcher Ashley Brignac struck out 15 batters and allowed five walks in eight innings for the Ragin’ Cajuns.
