LAKE BUENA VISTA — Although receiver Stefon Diggs dominated Friday Night Lights, there was one top-ranked wideout who failed to make the trip.

Berkley Prep prospect Nelson Agholor made up for his absence Friday night at the Disney Wide World of Sports Saturday afternoon. Agholor discussed why he does not have a top five group of schools.

“Myself and my head coach have sat down many times, and I’m sorry that we haven’t gotten anywhere, it’s just that we are building such great relationships with these programs that it has to take a way more in-depth thought before I can tell anyone no,” Agholor said.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder did give a time frame when he would narrow down his college choices. Agholor said that he would wait until after Sept. 1 when written scholarships are distributed and he finds out which schools truly want him.

As for the University of Florida, Agholor did spend time with Gators commit and Southeast squad teammate LaTroy Pittman, during the drills and seven-on-seven competition.

After scoring the go-ahead two-point conversion in the last two minutes of the Southeast’s 20-19 win against the West in the final game of the day, Agholor found himself congratulated by an excited Pittman.

Agholor also scored a game-winning touchdown in his first game of the day and celebrated with Pittman.

“LaTroy is a good guy,” Agholor said. “He is a great football player. I can learn a lot from him and he can learn a lot from me. The best thing about us outside of football is our friendship.”

Friendship for Agholor extends outside of Pittman. Although Agholor received a late invitation Friday to Gridiron Kings after Miami verbal Angelo Jean-Louis bowed out due to injury, the Berkley Prep standout jumped at the chance to perform against the nation’s elite.

He drove to Orlando by himself as quickly as possible with only two T-shirts in his car.

“This event is great,” Agholor said. “You know why I took it last minute? I love all these guys on my team. I met these guys at The Opening, and I competed against these guys all through the summer. Having the opportunity to finally play with them is great.”

At The Opening, in Beaverton, Ore., Agholor played with 10 of his eventual 16 teammates on the Southeast Gridiron Knights squad, including Pittman.

In addition to building his relationship with Pittman, Agholor continued to share his thoughts about his recruitment. Dominick Ciao, his high school coach serves as the main channel of communication for colleges.

Not only does he have more than 20 offers, Agholor feels blessed to have the opportunity to play for tradition-rich schools like Florida, Notre Dame, Southern California and Texas.

“Everybody is doing a great job,” Agholor said. “Every coaching staff has been great to me. I am talking with my friends and family. We [the players] have a little chalk talk about programs and what their things are for the future.”

Agholor gave some insight on the future of Florida State commit Dante Fowler, Jr. Although a solid verbal to FSU, Fowler still participated at Friday Night Lights. Agholor was not surprised to see the committed Fowler and other committed prospects attend the Florida camp.

“They were there to compete,” Agholor said. “They get all of the greatest players out there, get music pumping and a bunch of attention guys have their egos, so they all go out there and play.”

The smooth route-running receiver has the slightest of ideas where the touted defensive end may end up.

“I know he [Fowler] is a good friend of mine, and he loves the game of football,” Agholor said. “Wherever he has the opportunity to play it at, that is where he is going to end up.”

While Agholor plays defensive back in addition to wideout, he expressed his desire to line up at first on the offensive side of the ball.

There are no planned visits for Algholor in the near future. He didn’t rule out the possibility, though.

“If I went to any official visit, I would have a great time,” Agholor said. “It’s college.”
