Boston College pulls even for Heastie
A couple months ago all Logan Heastie could talk about was how he hoped to be a Florida Gator. Now the wide receiver’s interest in the Gators has cooled off a little bit and has risen for a school up north.
“Florida and Boston College are tied,” the 6-3, 195-pounder said. “I have been down to Gainesville a few times so I know what Florida has to offer. But, I haven’t been to Boston College yet, so it is kind of unknown. So I am going to go to Boston College and see what they are about. I am going to Boston College on July 14 and after that I should have a better idea.”
Heastie, who said he would definitely be back in Gainesville for the Gators’ annual spring game, has been in steady contacting with the Florida coaching staff.
“Coach (Dan) Mullen came to my school (Great Bridge High School in Chesapeake, Virginia), a couple of weeks ago and I talk to Coach Gonzales on the phone every once in awhile,” he said.
In addition to Florida, Heastie also really likes Boston College and he has several reasons why.
“I like the coaching staff and they throw the ball around a lot,” he said. “They’ve talked to me about playing early. Also, if I don’t go to NFL in three years, I can get a masters degree in four years in business at BC.”
Another thing that Boston College has going for them is that Heastie’s close friend, Tajh Boyd, quarterback at Phoebus High School in Hampton, Virginia, is being recruited by the Eagles.
“We talk about going to school together all the time,” Heastie said. “I think where he wants to go will be a big factor in my decision because he is one of my best friends and an awesome quarterback. Florida isn’t really looking at him, but he is interested in Wake Forest, Boston College and West Virginia.”
Of those schools, Boyd could help both Boston College and West Virginia land Heastie, but that is not the case for Wake Forest.
“I’m not into Wake Forest,” he said. “But, if [Boyd] goes to West Virginia or Boston College it would definitely help them.”
However, with Heastie being an early enrollee he will likely have to make his decision before his good friend does.
“I’m not sure how it is going to play out because I am graduating in December and his school doesn’t let kids graduate early,” Heastie said. “I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.”
Besides the Gators and Eagles, Heastie said there are a bunch of other schools that he is considering.
“I am still pretty wide open, but besides those top two I do like West Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina State and USC,” he said.
There are several things that Heastie is looking for in a school and one thing that doesn’t matter at all.
“I want a place where I feel comfortable,” he said. “I want to be able to help the offense and get early playing time. One thing that doesn’t matter to me is the weather.”
For now, Heastie is hard at work trying to improve his game. He and Boyd work with a personal trainer in hopes of getting stronger and faster. Additionally, Heastie is competing in the national 7-on-7 competition later this month.
