SEC Player Spotlight: Week Seven

Every Wednesday throughout the season, Gator Country reporter Andrew Spivey will spotlight the Top 5 performers from the previous week’s games.

1.) Connor Shaw, QB, South Carolina (Soph.)—In just his second career start, Shaw led South Carolina to a 54-3 whooping over Kentucky last week. Shaw was 26-of-39 passing for 311 yards. Shaw threw four touchdowns and zero interceptions. The sophomore also had 42 yards rushing in the game. As a team, the Gamecocks rolled up 639 yards of total offense against the Wildcats. South Carolina travels to play Mississippi State on the road this weekend.

2.) Mike Gilliard, LB, Georgia (Jr.)—Gilliard set a career-high with 12 tackles in Georgia’s 20-12 victory over Tennessee last Saturday. Gilliard also registered a sack, a forced fumble and 2.5 tackles for loss in the win. Georgia’s defense held Tennessee to (-20) yards rushing in moving to 4-2 on the season. Georgia heads to Nashville to take on Vanderbilt this weekend.

3.) Spencer Ware, RB, LSU (Soph.)—The sophomore running back set a career high with 109 yards rushing in LSU’s 41-11 victory over Florida last weekend. Ware also accounted for two touchdowns on the ground in the victory. LSU travels to Knoxville to take on Tennessee this weekend.

4.) Fletcher Cox, DT, Mississippi State (Jr.)—Cox set a career high with seven tackles in Mississippi State’s 21-3 victory over UAB on Saturday. Cox and his defensive counterparts have not allowed a touchdown in the last six quarters of action. Mississippi State takes on South Carolina at home in Starkville this weekend

5.)Joe Adams, WR, Arkansas (Sr.)—Adams had six for catches 49 yards in Arkansas’s 38-14 victory over Auburn last weekend. Adams also had a big 92-yard touchdown run that put Arkansas in the lead for good. Arkansas has the weekend off before hosting Ole Miss on October 22.
