BREAKING: Toledo to return to Florida

He’s packing his bags. Tampa Alonso star pitcher Tommy Toledo will arrive at the University of Florida this Saturday. The San Diego Padres made several last day overtures to secure Toledo’s services, but the third round selection and his family did not feel as though the offer was enough.

“He is a Gator,” Toledo’s parents said in a statement received by GatorCountry.com. “The Padres did not offer enough to derail the life-long Gator. He is looking forward to playing for Coach (Kevin) O’Sullivan.”

Toledo was one of the top pitchers in the country. His stock has soared over the past year when he led the Midland (Ohio) Redskins to the 18-under Perfect Game Baseball Championship with an 8-0 record and 1.07 ERA.  He is expected to room with Alonso teammate Chris Freshcorn, who signed with the Gators earlier this summer.

We’ll have more tomorrow from Toledo.
