The Florida Gators had several prospects on campus on Friday for camps but also had a few guys down on campus just to visit with the coaching staff.
Offensive lineman Warren McClendon (6-5, 290, Brunswick, GA. High) was down on campus just visiting with the coaches.
“Just getting down and talking to the coaches again,” McClendon said of what stood out during his visit to Florida on Friday. “Just getting to see the campus again.”
This is the third trip down to Gainesville for McClendon and he explained why he continues to visit the Gators.
“Coach [John] Hevesy and Coach Mullen, I like them a lot,” he said on what he likes about Florida. “They’re good people to be around, fun people to be around and I built a relationship with them since my freshman year when they were at Mississippi State.”
McClendon has now had the chance to watch offensive line coach John Hevesy coach his guys twice and he likes the coach’s personality on and off the field.
“He’s a tough coach, he’s intense,” McClendon said on his impressions of Hevesy. “He expects a lot out of his players. I like his coaching style, he’s a lot about technique.”
While on campus, McClendon had several current Florida linemen recruiting him and talking to him about the Gators.
“Just that Florida is close to home and they really love it down here,” he said on the message from the current players. “Saying that I will love it down here if I come down here.”
Two weeks ago, McClendon released a top five but he doesn’t have a leader at this point.
“They’re all about the same right, just getting everywhere,” McClendon said on if anyone stands out from his top five. “Just seeing how I like every school. I’m going to South Carolina next Friday.”
The Gators did help themselves on Friday according to McClendon as the Gators have been recruiting him hard.
“Yes, a little bit,” he said on if Florida has done anything to stand out. “Just the coaches talking to me often and getting me down here on visits.”
Florida and the rest of his top five schools will have to wait awhile on McClendon as the lineman has no timeline for his decision.
“I haven’t made a timeline yet,” he said on when he wants to make a decision. “But I’m figuring it out. I’ll take my officials then [fall], I’m signing early.”
