Florida’s Caroline Hitimana picked up two victories on Saturday to advance to the singles consolation finals at the 10th Annual Freeman Memorial Championships at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on the UNLV campus.
Hitimana won her first match on the day against Oregon’s Julia Metzger, 6-2, 6-2. She then downed UCLA’s Carling Seguso 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-7) to advance to the finals where she will face Duke’s Ester Goldfield on Sunday afternoon.
The Gators’ doubles pair of Alex Cercone and Olivia Janowicz lost a heartbreaking 8-6 decision to Southern California’s third-ranked duo in Kaitlyn Christian and Sabrina Santamaria in the quarterfinals.
In open play neither Cercone nor Janowicz were victorious. Cercone lost to UNC’s Lauren McHale, 6-1, 6-1. Janowicz was losing to UCLA’s McCall Jones, 6-1, 4-1, but retired.
