my Duke friends who are boosters also and prominent alumni are telling me no big deal, just keeping up with the Jones. They have told me for 10 years they will never be punished because UNC, Kansas, Kentucky never get punished. So I think they hold some leverage somehow

So Duke, UNC, Kansas, LSU, Auburn, KY etc. are bullet proof. Why?
    It's just such BS.

UF gets burned at the stake in the 80's for Gaylon Hall helping a kid out for lunch money and now the NCAA lets Louisville have hooker parties, Cam Newton goes to the highest bidder, and men's basketball is now controlled by agents having auctions with the above named schools.

UF should sue the sh*t out of the NCAA IMO

Why are people mad at Duke? Seems like this was between his father and an agent. Am I missing something?

Unless his father was playing professional basketball immediately prior to Zion playing at Duke, then it's a complete violation.

This paying parents instead of players directly, has been a tactic used by all the dirty schools for years....but still doesn't make it any less dirty.

Billy D did pay some dads to do summer camp coaching, but not to this extent and they actually could coach.

Thanks man! Have actually been out of pocket lately, at a training (over zoom though) and am just reading this news now in this thread.

So, Zion's lawyer says its all a sham and is forged, etc. That's either true, in which case the alleged findings aren't a reflection of reality OR they ARE a reflection of reality but Zion's lawyer is tasked with making the best, most strategic, denial possible for his client. Could be either of these.

The alleged findings are pretty detailed though. They certainly don't sound like vague rumors generally do. This is in addition to the near million dollar home Zion's family lived in seem pretty damning to me.

I'm not easily convinced that ANY super-elite high school prospect in basketball or football ends up perfectly clean before and during his college career. I'd bet they're most all compromised in some way at some point. But its all the more compelling when there is this much noise, including specific allegations, surrounding one specific player. I don't see how a reasonable case can be constructed to conclude that Zion's eligibility was in tact throughout his time in college. Can the opposite be proven though and how hard will the NCAA try to determine this?

As to certain schools being bulletproof... I don't know. I'm torn because I want to be open to my potential bias. I have tended to view Duke and UNC as being immune to NCAA action, though I haven't tended to have this view for KU or UK. For UK, they've been hammered before and UK's coach does not appear to be someone they're likely to favor (unlike K especially). I don't think UK would get away with what Duke has but I'm also aware that I'm a UK fan and am prone to believing they are more innocent than others assume. Kansas appears to be getting their due as we speak.

I do think its reasonable to generally conclude that the NCAA doesn't want to torpedo their biggest revenue producers but I think there's more to it than that.

Once the ACC cancels men's basketball for the year UNC and Duke will be hit with a year of probation.

The house Zion’s family lived in for the year that was provided by a Duke|UNC alum was the violation by a booster. Programs like Duke are exempt from NCAA investigations

If its Duke and the NCAA doesn't care, this might be the house in North Carolina that they stayed at.
We all know Vanderbilt wasn't using it any more.

I'm glad it's not true. Zion seems like a good guy, and it would have been an unfortunate stain on his record. A lot of people owe Zion and Duke an apology, it seems.
