    True.

But he looked totally inept as a freshman at UF.

My lasting memory of Appleby was him dribbling full court using only his knees at Midnight Madness.

When you telegraph a behind the back dribble it will be a run out slam dunk at the other end.

Ryan did develop into a solid PG eventually, but he just was not ready for prime time as a freshman at UF.

I know who the coach should be. Don DeVoe.

If you mean overly criticized I agree.

Don "Captain Ahab" DeVoe is/was a solid coach. He took UT to the NCAAs year after year until UT wanted Alan Houston and they fired DeVoe and hired Alan's dad.

So we had a program out of control and in turmoil and we brought in a coach that was no nonsense. Not a good combination.

As a fan of clean basketball I was happy with the hire even though it meant a horrible season.

It was a step in the right direction.

And I could not believe that we hired Kruger after that mess.

And the rest is history and we now think of our team as one that should compete for championships without cheating.

Kenny Boynton would make my list now that I think more about it. Our fans always equate 5-star label into "you better ball out or Ima critique you to no end and you deserve it because you were a 5-star". Although he had a good career, many wanted more.

    Seattle area

Well... he was never really a PG. He became something of a designated 3-point shooter for UW; kind of a "poor man's Lee Humphrey". I never heard much praise for him (or focus on him) in the local Seattle sports media, except for a couple of games where he got hot and scored, I think, 20+ points. But, that was pretty rare.

I never saw anything to make me wish he had stayed at UF.

Unfairly ripped imo and stills reps the Gators last I checked.
Dude has cashed a bunch of nba checks and has a couple of rings, so I'd say he gets the last laugh.

I agree, it is just that he knew he was out of his element and made an adjustment. That is why he didn't make my list of unmet expectations.

I'm not sure who was the bigger surprise turn around after they left UF, him or Kenny Kadji. Kadji couldn't walk and chew gum at the same time while he was here let alone handle a basketball and turned into a decent player for miami with 3 point range

I don't remember Prather catching a lot of heat around here......Werner should definitely be in that slot as he was bashed almost non-stop

Reggie Hannah was a big recruit at the time. Had a tendency to power dribble rather than turning and going up with the shot. Saw that a lot last year too. Hey, Reg was the best we had and I rooted for him.

    g8way;

Totally agree. Reggie was a Parade All American his senior year in High School. It was said that Coach Lotz went to every game Reggie played home and away in 1977. I know for a fact, Lotz went to each game I played against him (Satellite High School), 2 away-one home, and I can attest first hand he was an excellent basketball player.

Okay so I'm taking liberty and going back in time just to throw some other names out.
Jose Ramos - "Get off me old man!"
Randall Leath - "Starting at forward, Mister 4 points a game"
    Hosie Grimsley
Sven Dyrkolbotn - "Can I buy a vowel?"
