That's not true. Most on here didn’t and clearly the game crew covering the game were also clueless. But definitely not everyone was uninformed.
Totes. Also, as an aside, I’d like to point out that even though Zook is sometimes cast as the worst of the bunch, he’s the only one that never had a losing record.
Despite all the talent in the world. More reps could help him though now that Dijon is down. They dont trust Grimsley or Flowers over him.
We lost to USF. On top of everything prior to this. All these posts pleading for his job are a day late and several dollars short. Hell we almost let Texas come back and tie it up. This will always be our identity with Billy. We will win some we shouldnt and look like dog crap win or lose to the ones we should beat.
To be fair, Ryan Wingo will do that to many more DB'S before he heads off to the league. 5 * WR and One of the best in a LOADED WR class that had other 5 star WR'S Jeremiah Smith, Cam Coleman, Ryan Williams, TJ Moore, &Micah Hudson.
Yes and no. Impossible task in that he had a short leash coming after Spurrier due to changing expectations but he had opportunity to shore up his weaknesses which he didnt. He was the recipient of some horrid luck with the swindle in the swamp and the Tennessee fiasco with Dallas baker and then the clock stoppage that people forget about. But the miss state loss was brutal as they were winless at the time. Edit: I went back and looked up zooks losses. His teams were better than I remember but he laid some eggs against mediocre ole miss and lsu teams, choked away the Miami game and then the infamous miss state game did him in. I think he got a pass for the swindle and the Tennessee games in my opinion but it was the losses to the mediocre/bad teams that did him in. Id take him in a heartbeat over what we have now. We did have some convincing wins at least with him.
This is not a defense to CBN at all. But its difficult to compare the success of any current SEC coach to another in the SEC prior to 2006. Even harder the last 2 seasons. The overall talent of the conference is incomparable. With the additions of all of the BIG12 best teams Mizzou, Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Texas over the last decade the amount of Historical and recent success in the conference has grown immensely with that prestige comes with it thw attention of top talent. Add in NIL and even teams like Miss St. And freaking Vandy can take your lunch money on any given Saturday. Its just hard to compare success from 2 different eras much like comparing NBA greats from today to those in the older Eras. Like who is the Goat LeBron, Jordan, Kareem, Bird, Magic, or Bill Russell with his 11 titles.
No argument to your main point. College football has evolved dramatically in short time let alone over decades however.... You can still discuss success vs failure relative to current events. A lot of us gave napier a pass due to reported issues with the university, state of Florida laws, etc compliance and adaptation to NIL. Several like myself eventually realized that Napier’s plan was outdated. We wanted the old Saban/Bama method of modernizing our staffing, facilities, culture etc that the university seemed to shun while Florida fell behind in so many ways and I think much of that has helped but he brought in inexperienced staff, a slow portal process and a game strategy that doesnt translate to higher level football. Whether he was slow to adapt or hamstrung by circumstances, he has seemed to establish a good program at this time. Recruiting other than Offensive line is pretty good. I dont get caught up in numbers only. We got some 5 star studs and 3 star diamonds like baugh. But numbers are numbers. His offenses are slow, undisciplined and low scoring regardless of talent to this point. The defense is pulling its weight and then some but the two main issues that are still "unsuccessful " are the offense and game management. Before this Texas game we found ourselves back in the triple digit rankings statistically on offense. We cant expect one loss seasons and sec titles over and over due to parity but successful coaches across any generation address shortcomings the best they can. We've swapped DCs several times now to find the right answer. Lsu, Missouri, fsu, Miami etc have all addressed the weakest issues with their respective teams by changing coordinators. Napier will be averse to consistent success until he takes a step back from the offense. The records will ebb and flow because of factors like injury, transfers, NIL, luck etc but the framework for success needs to be there and an offense that to this point has declined each year since his first is the single biggest failure point at this time. My idea of success isnt married to an exact expectation for a given year.
