Yom Kippur greetings indeed! The day of atonement (I ask for forgiveness daily, but then some of us are playing catch-up!) Shalom Go Gators
The request (plea) to be in the sealed Book of Life. The two goats: (1) one sacrificed in the Temple to pay the price for ones sins and (2) the other goat turned loose in the wilderness to represent the leaving of that sinful behavior. As for me, the sacrifice for my sins was paid by One some 2,000 years ago.
Not the way most modern Jews see it. Atonement is less "sacrifice" than mindful deliberation on wrongs done others with the insight to improve for the rest of one's life.
