Florida State is adding to its thin quarterback room.

Wyatt Rector, a former three-star recruit and transfer from Western Michigan, plans to enroll at FSU as preferred walk-on in May and he could be placed on scholarship pending a hardship waiver from NCAA for immediate eligibility. For now, Rector will be considered a greyshirt and will have a chance to earn a scholarship once he's eligible to play depending on the waiver.

At the very least, Rector (6-4, 231) will provide depth in practice for FSU. Ideally, he’ll receive the waiver and will be able to play immediately this season. That would be welcomed news for an FSU squad that currently has just one eligible scholarship quarterback -- James Blackman -- on the roster.

"Honestly it’s like a dream come true," Rector told Noles247. "Growing up I was a Florida fan, but getting love from FSU in high school and not Florida, I was like ‘I was rooting for wrong team my entire life.’

"During the recruiting process [in high school], I went to FSU games. The people, the football, the atmosphere is amazing. I love it. I cannot wait to get started.”

Lol. Nice quote kid. This kid will never see the field. He wasn't very good in high school and he's still not any good.

I grew up rooting for the wrong team...lol

I’m not sure we’ll beat FSU again in my lifetime. Hope I’m wrong.

I think a few of us wondered if we’d either offer him or try to PWO him on the basis that he wanted to be a Gator, was athletic, and could be a second QB for that class. Obviously we feel pretty good about what we have now (and the staff didn’t think it made sense for us). I don’t see what choice FSU had here and the depth makes sense for them.

By the way - I think Mullen could have made a perfectly decent QB out of Wyatt. The problem is that he can just make a much better QB out of the guys we have now and the guys we are going to get.

You have to at least give Diaz credit for beating the **** out of FSU in the transfer portal battle.

Yeah, fsu didn't offer him either. He should have been a western Michigan fan in high school.

After the beatdown we give them this year, he may start rethinking his selection process.

The lack of organization and coherence at FSU is mind boggling:

    1. Wyatt Rector will only get a scholarship if his hardship waiver is approved. His hardship boils down to his position coach at Western Michigan left, thats it. Its unlikely Rector or the Louisville kid will have waivers approved (tells you how desperate they are for QB depth next year if they are even trying this). You can make the argument that Rector isnt even worth a PWO, he wasnt good enough to dress for a bad Western Michigan team and he was essentially retired from football and out of school until FSU came calling. For comparison sake Nick Sproles and Jailin Jackson are significantly better than Rector. Is this Willie's infamous plan? Rector???

    2. Willie hired Dugans this year as WR coach with no plan how he was going to adjust his staff. Now that their waiver for moving David Kelly (their recruiting coordinator and last year's WR coach) off field was denied they are stuck with 2 WRs coaches and have no special teams coach and a D coordinator who is also the only DB coach.

Wee Willie has quite the plan. The two situations you reference demonstrate how inept Wilie and his staff are.

And this is the best they can find to build QB depth? What about the kid from A&M?
