I think there's a good chance we could "bloody" their nose and get away with it, but it sure seems a ridiculously risky move.

I don't know if this link will give you the full article without a WSJ sub, but I got the full text via a Google Search and/or Reddit.

Amid Signs of a Thaw in North Korea, Tensions Bubble Up

A tentative move toward diplomacy over the confrontation with North Korea has begun, though that hardly means the tension is evaporating.

In a village on their heavily militarized border, North and South Korean officials opened talks Tuesday, ostensibly over possible North Korean participation in the coming South Korean Olympics. South Korea would like the talks to expand beyond that, toward finding broader ways to lower tensions.

But as just one sign of how fraught the situation remains, simply consider this: U.S. officials are quietly debating whether it’s possible to mount a limited military strike against North Korean sites without igniting an all-out war on the Korean Peninsula.

The idea is known as the “bloody nose” strategy: React to some nuclear or missile test with a targeted strike against a North Korean facility to bloody Pyongyang’s nose and illustrate the high price the regime could pay for its behavior. The hope would be to make that point without inciting a full-bore reprisal by North Korea.

You don't like the Wall Street Journal as a source? I thought that was one of the good ones.

The military option has always been on the table since Trump took office... nothing new except for the hyperbole coming from misinformed "news" people.

Some might argue that North Korean ICBMs that can reach the United States are something new.

That is new, but why is it news that we are not taking the military option off the table... or better yet, that we have had the military option on the table since Trump was elected.

North Korea now has nuclear weapons that can now reach the United States, why do you think it would be news that the Trump admin is still considering attacking them? If we attack them, we're making a bet that Kim Jong Un is a, like, stable dictator who won't retaliate, because if he does then we retaliate back. Then the ante keeps getting upped until someone decides to play the trump card of a nuclear weapon.

You really want to make a bet that Kim Jong Un is a stable dictator? I don't.

Well, when it comes to being attacked with nuclear weapons I always say a guess is as good as a fact.

If they had a miniaturized warhead they would be telling the world about that 'achievement' for sure...

    You're right.

North Korea's Kim says country has miniaturized nuclear warheads

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said his country has miniaturized nuclear warheads to mount on ballistic missiles and ordered improvements in the power and precision of its arsenal, state media reported on Wednesday.

And why is it a shock that we might take military action? That was the real discussion here...

    Deja Vu...

Because North Korea now has ICBMs that can reach the United States. We level their country, they take out Houston. Is that a trade you're willing to make?

What was your point here? Do you have a reason why you even mentioned that fact that we have military options still on the table? So, they claim they have miniaturized warheads...
