Reparations were not paid at the time of the end of the Civil War because the South had nothing to give. Blacks got to see Atlanta burn to the ground, and got to see the Confederacy defeated, in addition to being set free. Lincoln had no intention of doing more because he wanted the U.S. to become united again, and return to prosperity as soon as possible. Lincoln promoted forgiveness to welcome the wayward son back to the fold. It would take the better part of 100 years for the South's economy and infrastructure to fully recover from the war. We have made progress since 1865 in providing opportunity for people of all races, even if we are not quite at full equality yet. Paying reparations does little to help provide opportunities and a future to black people, and will add a huge debt burden to the U.S. at a time when we can't seem to control federal spending.

Oh wow, we are now dealing with right and wrong from your moral standards. OK, I will play. Yes, it would be wrong For a Jewish person to Demand a German person pay them money in the year 2100 For something that occurred in 1940. 100% absolutely

That's a ridiculous opinion. It would have been wrong every single year Germany refused to pay reparations for what they did. The same is true here. There is no statute of limitations on those sorts of crimes against humanity. Right is right, and wrong is wrong. You know the difference. We stole wealth from generations of Black people, and that continued even after slavery ended. It even continues today. Some of us want to make things right.

And let’s not forget that the newly formed Haiti was forced to pay reparations to France for taking away their slaves and income from slavery after the Haitian Revolution. Former slaves actually had to pay reparations to the slave masters for kicking their asses in a war. Imagine that!

I don’t see the outrage over reparations for that one. Seems like those lazy French just wanted a handout.

I’m not a rocket surgeon,,,, but,,,, I still know the Germans didn’t bomb Pearl Harbor.

There’s lots of anger here. I was trying to lighten up the mood. :)

Crime against humanity? With slavery you have a dead perpetrator and a dead victim. You do understand in our Country you don’t punish the great great great grandson for the sin of the great great great great grandad. You also don’t punish a group for the crimes of a few.....especially since the large majority of the Group Outlawed the Conduct of the minority and many gave their lives for the cause.

If time doesn’t heal all wounds like you claim, can you name any Country in the world which has clean hands? I want to see reparations from the Catholic Church, all African nations, every Indian tribe, the Germans, the Japanese, Russia, England, the Italians, the Turks, Lawrence Phillips, Brazil, Cuba, and any other Nation with a Flag. I would also like reparations from every black American to every White American for the over 1 million white slaves owned by blacks. Let’s get this party rolling.

I'm firmly opposed to reparations, but none of your post makes sense. Reparations would be a decision that we as a country made, it doesn't matter what other countries do.
Or do you really think we should take all our cues from other countries? I'd really be curious what you think.
Also, reparations would not be punishing individuals here, it would be an action we took as a country because of an action we took as a country.

when you say “action we took as a Country” are you referring to the “death of my ancestors fighting against slavery”. Because I think my family paid with blood, and that is enough for me.

No, I meant that our country approved slavery, which is what we are talking about.

But you didn't answer the question: Do you think the U.S. should make decisions about internal issues strictly based on what Cuba, Russia, Turkey, etc., do?

I never said that. What I implied through my post is why aren’t you and all of your Newly woke friends Seeking Social justice for me and other non black folks who have suffered injuries due to slavery? Why only black reparations? Why are you only targeting Americans. Are you racist? Do you find that White lives don’t matter? The American Indians owned a boat load of black slaves. Are you burning down their Casinos? or are you giving them a pass because they stole their lands from other tribes?

I am always up for learning something new. I was unaware that Black people in this country owned over 1 million white slaves, and I can’t find anything about it. Can you point me in the right direction?

It's not a punishment. It's about paying back what this country stole. Justice delayed is justice denied.
