also from Woodward and Costa’s book:

“ Milley, deeply shaken by the assault, 'was certain that Trump had gone into a serious mental decline in the aftermath of the election, with Trump now all but manic, screaming at officials and constructing his own alternate reality about endless election conspiracies.”

Mary Trump was right when she said that Donald is the only person who can gaslight himself.

Thank you for posting this. Now we know with certainty not to take your histrionics about the military code of justice seriously. It was all a farce.

You can’t maintain credibility wanting to give Trump a pass, and then want to throw the book at Milley for not even committing any dishonorable act. The only way to get there is to be a unitary executive extremist, the old “The President did it so it can’t be a crime” argument. The President is lord god and you are either with him or an enemy of the people. This is Trumps position. Do you share it? There’s no neutral position that can get you there, in fact I’m arguing there isn’t even a course to pursue with Milley since there is no order he disobeyed. Your position is so extreme you want him charged for something that didn’t happen, but rather for his hypothesizing.

If you were “letter of the law” you would not be dismissive of Trumps actions. Yet... here you are.

This doesn't sound to me like a commitment to intellectual honesty. You realize that it was Pelosi who held back the many dems chomping at the bit to impeach Trump, right? And that he was impeached twice--both for extremely valid reasons of his own decidedly terrible behavior.

Mark Milley is not the Secretary of Defense. However, the Secretary of Defense apparently signed off on this and encouraged it. Again, because even those appointed by Trump were terrified of what he might do by the end.

It really refuted nothing from Woodward’s book. It effectively just deletes the “frantic” adjective from Woodward’s take about Milley on that call. Your fact perception totally changes because of switching around an adjective?

I doubt Milley was “frantic”. I’m sure he did do these calls occasionally, multiple generals already backed this up. But I also do not doubt there were legitimate concerns about the President’s state of mind at the time. Waaaayyyy too much smoke there, beyond just seeing the actual 1/6 events. Whatever term we use to describe the former President (manic, deranged, sociopath), those were a dark few months for this country right before and after the incident.

It adds that SecDef was both in the loop and involved.

True. It confirms civilian control, I had already assumed it (opined it might have been Pence actually acting as President through this time, and receiving all military briefs the President normally would). But that the calls were “staffed” and with knowledge of SecDef also provides Milley plenty of cover. Unless, of course, Vindubud wants to go down the line and start charging the whole admin with treason for not catering to the whims of the manchild...:emoji_laughing:

We don't like the President and think he might subvert our democracy so let's actually subvert our democracy to stop him. Brilliant!

Nonsense. Trump was extorting a foreign leader for his own political advantage. You might not like Milley's phone call, but there was no such motivation behind it. The two situations are not even remotely similar.

Trump was impeached twice due to gross misconduct. He remained in office because Republican Senators traded their moral compasses to have a Republican president.

You think they did that because they “don’t like the President”?
    Seriously.

So you are OK with a President illegally withholding Congressionally approved funds for more than 45 days without explanation? And you're fine with a POTUS basically blackmailing the head of a foreign nation saying said funds will be released in exchange for dirt on a political rival to the President? And this isn't an abuse of the Presidential office how?

The January 6th insurrectionists didn't vote in presidential impeachment proceedings, silly rabbit.

That's OK, you post a lot of stuff.

Trump was an instigator of the Jan 6 failed autogolpe attempt. Trump ginned up the crowd and pointed them directly towards the Capitol.

And thank goodness Trump is out of office. Did you ready the OP? Milley was so concerned that Trump was so batcrap crazy that he lost the election, and the autogolpe attempt failed, that Milley had genuine concerns Trump would start a war or launch nukes to claim martial law, just to remain in power!

The peaceful transition of power is a hallmark of American democracy. The worst one President does to the incoming are harmless, practical jokes like removing the W's from computer keyboards before Bush II took office. But Trump? Didn't concede. Tried to overturn the election results, and months later, is still pandering his big lie that he won, despite no evidence on his side. Empires usually crumble from within, and Trump is a megalomaniac, want-to-be despot that is capable doing just that. Crumbling American from within.

If that was true, Isn't that what the 25th amendment is for?
