We are around 13th overall but that’s only good enough for 7th in the SEC. On one hand, Billy does not seem to be the recruiting dynamo we all hoped for. On the other, he brought in lagway and upped the talent level overall. Even though Womack was not a Florida kid, I sure wish we were doing better with in-state kids (0 in top 10 this year). Well, it’s just one kid and hopefully a good start to the season gets us some flips. We give Kelly a lot of grief but he seems to out recruit Billy every year.

A lot? I wish we knew what we were competing against or how fall short we fall sometimes. If it's only about money, wouldn't we only be getting the players other schools didn't want to pay much?

 

Does LSU really have more NIL money to spend than Florida? That seems hard to believe. Also, Florida may have to compete with other state schools but there are a lot more athletes in Florida and Kelly has recruited nationally.

 

Seems like we wouldn’t have spent all that time recruiting him if we weren’t even in the ballpark.

 

Billy is mediocre at everything. It is what it is.

 

They do. Obviously it's not a hard number for every kid/class, but they have a larger pool. Quick glance at their roster, 56 La kids and another 15 from next door Texas. And bear in mind they are a big portal school as well....almost all of those 27 players are out of state kids.....so they recruited % from in state remains very high.

 

Anybody who can take a 19-19 team that’s been irrelevant the past 15 years and pull in a top 15 recruiting class is a recruiting dynamo in my book. And he’s doing it the sustainable way, through cultivating long-ignored relationships with local high schools and filling in select gaps via the portal. I think Billy has been masterful in constructing this team from scratch.
