Apparently, wind turbines are not fireproof, and can catch fire if struck by lightning, thereby creating carbon dioxide and contributing to global warming. Even when it's on fire, the wind turbine continues to turn as it mocks our efforts to defeat global warming.

Lightning ignites fire on wind turbine

Sounds like a real Chernobyl event. Maybe we should cut down all the trees in the world too? Those suckers are like lighting rods and kindle combined.

Sometimes they do cut them down........and replace then with solar fields.

What do you think the ratio of trees cut down for solar fields is to trees cut down for other purposes? A Trillion to one?

Good point. Do away with any efforts to reduce carbon emissions no matter how de minimus said emissions might be.

Don't know whether you're actually serious, but the carbon dioxide released by wind turbine fires is infinitesimal compared with the carbon dioxide released by burning fossil fuels to generate electricity. Reminds me of one of the former president's favorite narratives performed at his MAGA rallies when he rants about avian deaths from wind turbines while conveniently failing to mention that the extraction and burning of fossil fuels kills far more birds than wind turbines or as he likes to refer to them "windmills".

“Windmills” perfectly sums up his take. And he has no idea why it does, which is the gold.

Actually…there is a chance you have it backwards. At least when it comes to a lot of things as many companies have replanting programs to make sure their resource is sustainable. Don’t think a solar farm is replanting many trees…

Sure… a quick google search says there were 6 trillion trees when human came about, now there are 3 trillion… that’s a lot of solar farms if your math is correct…. Lol.

Actually, most solar farms are installed in places where the trees are already removed. The ones on I-10 between Jax and Tallahassee are on land that was formerly used for farming or cattle ranching. Why spend the money to take down trees when it has already been done for you?

Some people are lacking a sense of humor, and that's o.k. Most people figured it out. (Surprise: even you apparently thought it was funny.) :)

I have no problem with (land-based) wind power. Texas gets 34% of its electricity from wind. Land-based wind power costs only $0.037 per kW-h.

If one of them burns down once in a blue moon, and people are entertained by it, civilization will survive.

I thought that 34% you typed was an error, but it is actually directionally correct.

Wind and solar power are 'bailing out' Texas amid record heat and energy demand

But unlike previous extreme weather events in Texas which led to deadly blackouts, the grid is holding up remarkably well this week. Several experts told CNN that it's owed in large part to strong performances from wind and solar, which generated 27 gigawatts of electricity during Sunday's peak demand -- close to 40% of the total needed.

Despite the Texas Republican rhetoric that wind and solar are unreliable, Texas has a massive and growing fleet of renewables. Zero-carbon electricity sources (wind, solar, and nuclear) powered about 38% of the state's power in 2021, rivaling natural gas at 42%

This is shocking to me and is great news.

So the trees were already removed and not replaced?

My point is trees are typically replanted when the industry involves using them.

It seems like there could be a technology solution to this problem. But ERCOT won’t require it, so nobody there will do it.

Solar Power Is Bailing Texas Out This Summer

Another good article. Of course is spite of the good news, whenever there is a hiccup ERDOT blames it on wind and solar.

“We’ve got twice the solar we had last summer, and something like three times what we had eighteen months ago,” energy consultant Doug Lewin told me on Monday. “We actually set another solar record today, and we set one yesterday. Renewables throughout most of May and June, as we’ve been experiencing extreme heat, really were the difference between [having] a whole lot of conservation calls and potential rolling outages and not having them.”

The two key renewable energy sources contributing to the Texas power grid are solar and wind power; solar accounts for roughly 25 percent of the renewable resources on the grid, while wind represents the other three quarters, according to Andrew Dessler, director of the Texas Center for Climate Studies at Texas A&M.

Alaska would like to remind Texas that Alaska could be split in half and both halves would be bigger than Texas:)
