Bingo! I couldn't imagine if they get hurt what they would fall back on? According to some on here they should major in football and that's it.

Without football what should they do? What if the NFL ceased to exist? That education they're getting isnt free. They get it with their services playing football for a school.

not sure of your point. Yep, forgot about Black but would you say he’s a rare bird or are there a lot of 183 pound safetys running around? NO.
Let’s talk about Davis 185 quite a bit more than 170 and not sure I’m ready to crown him a star when he only played 35 snaps a game (give or take a few snaps).

Just for giggles top 12 safety prospects and their weights listed below. Nobody near 183. Which proves my point about black being a rare find and remember that was 10 years ago. Williams will need to put on 20 to 25 pounds to be a good college safety. I’m one of the biggest Shawn Davis fans out there at this point I would say he is been an average college safety. Now some of that is not his fault because he only plays 3035 or sometimes maybe even 40 snaps a game but I would venture to say 10 to 12 pounds of more weight would definitely help him. Until we start recruiting bigger safeties I would say we will be average at best on the backend. We all love black, but he and Reggie were very very rare and please remember that was not last year both of them played years ago when 185 pounds was doable. Not so anymore unfortunately, look below and it proves my point. Average college safety ( really good ones is 205). That’s a long way to go for Williams.

    Delpit 203
    JR Reed 196
    Caden Sterns 210
    Richie Grant 194
    Xavier McKinney 200
    Jordan Fuller 205
    Alohi Gilman 202
    Jalen Elliott 209
    Greg Eisworth 205
    Branden Jones 205
    Lars Woodbey 223
    Jaylinn Hawkins 209

Next two safeties on top 20 list.....Thought I’d go even further because… Well I thought maybe the first 12 guys I listed were just I don’t know blind luck on my thoughts.

    James Wiggins 205
    Marcelino Ball 223

now the average college safety is over 206 lbs.

Oh goody, they get a basket weaving degree. The nfl does exist and so does the ncaa’s mulitibillion dollar contract.

Not really for athletes. Their education is extremely limited. A UF education is not the same thing for them as it is a regular student.

??? Your response makes no sense. Plenty of players get degrees that are useful to them after their playing days are over.

I’m well aware of the differences in their schedules /classes and those of other students, as I’m a UF alumna and the mother of two alumnae. Guess what, none of us are engineers

But you could have been had you wanted to. What I’m saying and it can’t be that hard to understand is that athletes aren’t given the same educational opportunity that you or I would be. I’m for at the very least letting them come back at a later date to get any education their capable of.

They’re given whatever opportunity they can handle. FTR, they can come back and finish if they choose to and take advantage of academic support.

I understand how all of this works, probably better than you do as I’ve had friends that worked as advisors and tutors.

In all fairness, that is undoubtedly true for most. But Kyle Trask, and others whom I am too lazy to look up, are definite exceptions. I do remember an exceptional young man named Billy Kynes who went on to graduate from Oxford after winning a Rhodes scholarship as an undergrad at UF. I know he's the extreme example and that that was a long time ago, but not all college athletes are lazy or just dunces - but sadly, some are.

They will accommodate what the athlete wants, or can handle. Plenty of doctors and lawyers that played football. Matt Hurbanis is my ortho surgeon

Definitely no limit to what they can accomplish after football in school

That guy always seemed to end up where the ball was when he needed to be there. Safety along with lb are such institutional positions. Can’t coach that shit

Any major is allowed but some have such high expected work loads that student athletes are warned about the difficulty of maintaining the scholarship responsibilities to their sport. The vast majority will accept guidance toward programs they can integrate more easily with their time commitments, but you still get the occasional engineer, architect, etc who probably has extraordinary focus and organizational skills.

What made Bowden so disgusting was all his contrived and staged preacher bullshit when his true self seemed totally lacking in values. Photo ops in churches, etc. That guy was pure trash

Perhaps Williams will be on the field in a Nickel back role instead of Safety? Maybe that was the Gator's plan for him as well?
