We might have our differences, but CaptUSMCNole speaks the truth on this! Take it from someone who lives in Charlottesville. :)

Heard this today as well. I don’t see anyway ND is achievable at this point, they like their independence and really like the tv deal they have.

As long as they have an easy path to playoffs, why would they. Things could change though. A lot of things are changing.

Fsu isn't worthy of the SEC mantle... I would look at someone like Oklahoma state... Brings more to the table than tally vo-tech

    Order of preference:
If we had to keep expanding:

    UNC or Nc St
    UVA or VT
    Clemson or GT
    WVU or Pitt
    Cincinnati or Louisville

If they can’t win it all, don’t let em in. No more pretenders needed.

Agreed. ACC is the only place I could see ND ending up down the road, as neither the SEC or B1G are going to make concessions for the NBC deal, and ND isn't giving that up that branding any time soon.

Sports Illustrated was reporting that fsu and Clemson has reached out to the SEC. The report has since been taken down.

If there ends up being two super conferences that have playoffs that the winners play each other for the national championship, they’ll change their tune. They just better see the light before it’s too late.

That's true, but I don't believe it comes to that. No conference is going to want to give up autonomy to another conference.

Probably just have the 4 remaining run a league themselves separate from NCAA oversight with 16-20 per conference.

It came in my newsfeed this morning so I don't think the story has been completely taken down.

If there ends up being four which is very plausible, they will all be very inferior as there aren’t enough viable programs for 48 other teams to have credibility. We have Vandy and why they even attempt to play football in the sec is beyond my comprehension. I know it’s always been that way and we’ve come to accept that some teams don’t belong with the others. In the name of competition, why do we accept a team into a supposed competition that has zero chance to be successful? It’s a farce to make a couple of the other bottom feeders feel better? Winning a conference with one or two ranked teams is not much of an accomplishment and getting a playoff birth from that situation is not the same as winning what will now be the sec. all championships are not created equal(73 Bama). There are only enough teams to make one more competitive conference of 16 teams.

The new P4 alignment will definitely will include some bottom feeders. I just don't see a mechanism where they reorganize completely. Too many long-standing fiefs and relationships.

It would take ESPN coming in and telling the top 36 teams that they essentially want to start NFL lite and dropping fat stacks to make it happen. Only issue is they are already dropping those fat stacks on the system the conferences and their members are comfortable with and that makes quite a bit of cash for all involved.

As long as there’s a playoff that lets teams in by a vote, it will continue. If say the big 10 were to add a couple heavyweights and have a championship between them and the sec and skip the other conferences, teams would make moves. They may not want to but their other option would be having Clemson play usc for something like a rose bowl game and they could be champion of that. The money wouldn’t look so nice for that farce. I think some hands with be forced. There really was no debate as to which conference was better before. Now it’s way lopsided and all other conferences are second rate.

The NBC deal was always a little weird to me. First, the announcers that they have aren't very good nor is their studio show for halftimes.
Next, I thought that they only had the TV rights for ND Home games, not the away ones, those rights would go to the hosting team's TV deal.
So I get the branding of it for them but they didn't hitch their wagon to a very good network IMO.

I saw it in my newsfeed yesterday morning too, but when I went to SI website, there was no information or articles about it.

Maybe the SI article was pulled, I don't know which one I read but I found this:
SEC rumors: Did Clemson & Florida State inquire about joining conference?

    Marc Ryan
    @MarcRyanOnAir

Per a reliable source, Clemson+Florida State have reached out to the SEC about joining the conference. The SEC is concerned that streaming numbers for Clemson+Florida State don't bring what Oklahoma+Texas do. Notre Dame is the only "free agent" left that would "add to the pot."

Whether it’s this round or the next, people need to get used to the idea that there’s a good chance we end up back with them in some form.
