And yet I’m betting there’s one of them who could do a much better job. Hell, I’m willing to try.

Strangely enough, in my industry, it's not that uncommon for interims to make bold decisive changes precisely because their tenures are short term by nature. Often described in terms of "tilling the soil for the next person," the problems from the previous leadership are purposefully uprooted so that the short timer takes the heat and allows for the permanent hire to start with a clean slate.

The answer is no. I think his buyout remains the same for the length of the contract. The basement comment sealed his fate. If we struggle with Samford Saturday, he will have to go Sunday morning. Stricklin needs to follow him out the door. Then UF can start using back channels for the next coach.

His buyout is 85% of his remaining contract. It goes down every year until the end of the contract.

As to the buyout, I believe that could be negotiated as in payout over certain number of years. And if he needed right now he could go to J G Wetworth :D

Don't see why there can't be performance based reductions to buyouts going forward. You are 8 and 5 every year and that's not good enough then the school is on the hook for a higher percentage since you have a winning record but the school still wants to sever ties. Lay 3 eggs in a row and lose a recruiting class and fan base then you get a negotiated reduction in buyout.

Buyout clauses are supposed to be there to instill confidence and a stability so a coach can recruit. Shouldn't be a problem for a coach to say yeah I'm not worried about failing that hard that he won't take a reduction of benefits clause with specific terms.

The buyout is 85% of whatever remains on his 7 year, $51.8 million dollar contract when/if he's fired. It would be more now than at the end of the season. It's going to cost the UAA a ton of money to let him go anytime soon.

He could still be the coach in '25, depending on how the season shakes out and how everything else falls with contract/buyout/AD situation, etc. I would say it's very close to 0% chance he'll be around in '26 though. In order for that to happen we would have to have a pretty good team, and I just don't see it unfolding that way.

Wait, what? Now four wins might be enough to give him a fourth season, which we all know would be a lost season?

Man, we have hit rock bottom and have started to drill rather than climb out.

A forlorn hope. Laying eggs is what he does. It’s not the aberration like the expression implies. It’s his norm. If you like, it’s his “process.” The question is not if, it’s how many to not put off until next season what clearly needs to be done immediately.

How comfortable will a top flight coach be if he’s hired by both an interim Pres and AD who will both be gone in a year?

now you have me singing their commercial tune…

also/ I think the buyout calls for like 50% of it to be paid within 30 days of termination.

The two biggest flaws he has is the belief that emotion isn't a tool and that he didnt need an OC. This stupid business like approach (not bad but devoid of any fire it is) and the lack of awareness that he needed an OC are maybe the two things making me angry with him right now. If he showed up with a capable offense and a defense that still needed work then he could justify sticking around but I just don't see him even believing he needs an OC still.

He could save some face and delay the inevitable just by saying he is relinquishing OC duties to focus on overseeing the team but he can't. It's just crazy that these coaches we have hired all have a fatal flaw that is obvious to everyone else but themselves. Champ/offensive philosophy. Mac/S@C/recruiting, Mullen/Grantham/recruiting.

    Every time.

    Napier is going no where.
Sports and Parties are no longer our MO
U of F is ranked 16 out of 255 best education schools
    The future is academics
not a bunch of illiterate jocks pressing the school for more playing time.

Football coaches are not normal people. It's not normal for people to have exceptional minds for a facet of a game. It would be like if you could make millions of dollars being really good at Dungeons & Dragons. Can you imagine how weird those people would be? That's what coaches are like. Their brains are not like the rest of ours.

I've lost track of the number of former players who have come out recently saying how shocked they were that we simply don't do the little details necessary to succeed at this level. It's a million things I wouldn't notice, but the fact that so many who have been in the program are pointing it out belies Napier's insistence from the beginning that we'd be a detail oriented program. That's the issue with being a coordinator that's far deeper than playcalling.

Has there been any thought if Napier is allowed to stay for 2025 if he will say he needs a contract extension to be able to truthfully tell recruits he'll still be around for 2026? How you can legitimately sell recruits on your program if it is pretty clear you're a dead man walking?

Perhaps that too can be negotiated since he has done such a lousy job. Spreading out the payments could help with taxes. Hey's "It's your money" ;)

So, like, we just drop football or accept sucking as the norm like Vanderbilt does? Is that your suggestion? By the way, Florida has been a top-tier academic school for as long as most of us can remember. It’s nothing new. And it’s not mutually exclusive to have that or exceptional athletics.
