Seems like a bad idea to stop funding science, but the idiots in charge apparently disagree. Kakistocracy. From that liberal rag Forbes: Science magazine this week reported the latest development in a growing pattern of political disruption to American science: the National Science Foundation is eliminating all 37 of its research divisions, restructuring its grant-making process, laying off staff and canceling over $1 billion in already-awarded grants. The changes follow the resignation of Director Sethuraman Panchanathan and coincide with a proposed 55% cut to the agency’s budget. This is not reform. It is a dismantling. The restructuring is widely seen as a response to political pressure from the executive branch, reflecting a broader effort to align federal science funding with emerging ideological priorities. In addition to diversity-related research, areas such as climate science, vaccination, HIV/AIDS and COVID-19 have all faced deep cuts. This shift has raised concerns within the scientific community about the potential narrowing of research scope and the implications for academic freedom and innovation. The economic consequences of restricting scientific inquiry on this scale could be far-reaching. The NSF Is Being Dismantled — With Broad Implications For The American Economy
Yeah, I can see how an org that had a hand in developing semi conductors, MRIs, kidney matching for transplants, Doppler radar, fusion energy, the internet, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, LASIK etc. would be seen as over rated. Probably among the best invested dollars in this country, but populism has to annihilate the good with the bad in its pitch fork purging process I guess. The future of the country and our place as a world leader in new technology development be damned.
Sky falling or not falling, it’s a shame Trump’s supporters really can’t see the damage they are doing, too busy wrapped up in their sense of grievance and anger. What’s ironic is that policies they are trumpeting will hurt them far more than the people they are mad at. The wealthy will have options, the angry and blindly supportive middle class won’t.
It's amazing how short sighted the maga crowd is. Just look at the responses on this board, incredibly dense.
After Trump gets rid of all science research you won’t be able to tell. But I’ll give it to you, you bleed MAGA…
I’ve been following this story, and it’s tough to digest. I mean, this isn’t an organization that just showed up overnight. It’s the national science foundation, an organization that few scientists in America don’t have some stake in. Trump seems to have a much greater interest in destroying things than building them.
I'll admit, I see the quantity of your posting, but never any substance, and I've been occasionally inclined to respond with snark. Or even consider a block. But now I see things a little differently. Your posts represent MAGA perfectly, sir. You are the very essence of MAGA thought. Cheers to you!
Feel free to enlighten us and tell us how that is essentially worse than destroying the national science foundation
I'd love to learn about the "damage Joe Biden did." I promise, I'll read at least some of what you respond with - all if it's rational and not from a site hosted by Bo Snerdley. I'll even thank you in advance for the education, particularly about how Biden "hurt people." Thanks in advance.
