White pushing to get the most out of struggling Gators

    By Edgar Thompson Orlando Sentinel

GAINESVILLE — The Florida Gators’ two best players, point guard Andrew Nembhard and shooting guard Noah Locke, are also the two of the team’s youngest players.
It’s a good sign for the future.

It also has become a big problem this season for coach Mike White.

When you’ve got freshmen leading, not a sign of a great team,” White said Tuesday. “That’s where we’re at.”

White is particularly frustrated and flummoxed by the struggles of senior guards KeVaughn Allen and Jalen Hudson.

All of us fans get frustrated with poor performances, effort and decision making - try to sympathize with how Coach White feels. He certainly makes mistakes and will continue to develop as a coach, but I like him a lot.

5/17 from Locke and 2/8 from Hudson - ouch. You've gotta have the confidence to keep taking good shots, but that makes it rough. Stone is a complete mystery to me - he has great skills but appears to play with such disinterest.

I said at about the third game that Mike should give the upperclassmen about 2-3 more games and then if he doesn't see the light coming on he should just go youth and set up for next year and afterwards. Then we got those extreme ups (Butler 2.0) and downs (USCe). I think he should just go on and call this season what it is and that is a building block to the future. Where it gets dicey is that Chase is gone, Gak is not coming in and Bassett gets fouls too fast. Otherwise the upperclassmen can come in and "spark things" or get pulled.

He is largely turned the reigns over to the young guys... and not because he is conceding the season, but because they are better players.
AN, Locke and KJ and are getting big minutes.

    Speaking of Chase :
Anything on the recruiting front for another BiG to fill that role? Any potential Grad transfer? Juco maybe? Any news or hunches, @akaGatorhoops or @Efawcett7 or @BailieghWilliams ??

I suspect we will look at the grad transfer market.

I expect a grad transfer, but theres a really interesting JUCO big named Dimon Carrigan that I think we could be taking a long look at. Really sought-after shot blocker with tons of high major interest, but he is a Florida kid who once called UF his "dream school."

Just one question, beer or chardonnay? We already have enough chardonnay drinkers.

Chardonnay is for girls. If you drink wine, drink red. It's like blood.

I'll take one that drinks battery acid before each game.

I just want a “big” that has some skill on offense. Payne will be our big that is a shot blocker. We don’t need another big that is all defense and no offense.
