In a Blue Origin Rocket, William Shatner Finally Goes to Space

    From the article:

"William Shatner, the actor best known as the heroic Captain James T. Kirk in “Star Trek,” and three other passengers returned safely from a brief trip to the edge of space on Wednesday.

Mr. Shatner, 90, became the world’s oldest space traveler on the flight, which was the latest excursion over the West Texas desert aboard a rocket built by Blue Origin for space tourists. The private space company is owned by Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon and one of the wealthiest men on the planet."

Pretty cool, apparently Bezos offered him a complimentary ride while 2 of the other passengers paid around $250,000 to go into space for a short period of time.

I was he would have put a Star Fleet insignia on his jacket though.

I'm going to buy a seat on the next flight through the Amazon website.

I like the idea that if you're not satisfied or find something wrong after takeoff you have 30 days to return.

Dude is boss on twitter. I’m sure his head will explode now with some very Shatner responses.

I wonder how many of the crew grew up watching James T kick ass across the galaxy and were motived because of shows like Star Trek.

Very likely. When the first space shuttle was unveiled to the public for the first time, it was to the theme song for Star Trek. Shatner was dressed up as Captain Kirk, and made out with several female reporters, as expected.

Did he hook up with any hot alien space chicks while he was up there? Ten minutes was always plenty of time for Captain Kirk.

Think about this, he probably had a phone with him that makes the "Beam me up Scotty" communicator's of his show look incredibly weak in comparison. The phone has tons more capacity than did the vehicle that took men to the moon and back. I think that cpu ran on something like 54 bits of RAM only.

    This seems true.

And yet, ironically, our TV is littered with characters, eg those from Homeland, Rake, How I met your mother, Fleebag, etc., that are way more sexually active in ways that would have been inconceivable back then.

There is some kind of paradox at work.
