Why did the protests not cease after arresting Chauvin? And no - they couldn't rush to arrest him. This is not an arrest of a citizen; it's an arrest of a law enforcement officer and the charge of murder/manslaughter is MUCH more complex. Frankly, they rushed it to try and quell the violence. I'm sure if the prosecutors had their way, the arrest would have been weeks later.

I think he is just required to mention 2A in order to get backed by the NRA. Also maybe that citizens should shoot looters.

Although I seriously doubt that they will actually carry through (fortunately most are rational), I suspect a lot of the Second Amendment extremists would love to employ Second Amendment remedies against the looters and vandals. Essentially, Trump is ginning up support among a key part of his base.

Well, good job New York. De Blasio and Cuomo have failed, sadly. A once great city being destroyed and those two act like Bobby Bowden, “boys will be boys”. Pitiful.

And...what did Obama do when he oversaw 6 riots under his watch? He sat back and gave his 2 minute speech and his infamous, "If I had a son, he would look like Trayvon Martin". Did he sign an EO to overhaul the police? Nope. Nothing was ever done while he was President, yet the number of these riots increased 10-fold to numbers not seen since the 60s. Kap did his kneel down under Obama. BLM was created under Obama. OWS was created under Obama. The Antifa has its roots under Obama as they formed during 2016 to oppose Trump's campaign. Racial tensions completely exploded under Obama.

Trump can't do much here because this is State jurisdiction. Had this occurred with an FBI agent then it's different, but the federal government can't enforce legislation.

The U.S. Constitution established a federal government of limited powers. A general police power is not among them. That authority is largely reserved for the states. ... Moreover, state action may be encouraged, not commandeered or compelled. Essentially, all Congress can do is tell states to fix things or lose funding - bribery. The President has zero authority.

Sorry, but this is why Obama couldn't do more even though he wanted to. About the only thing he could do is act if it involved national security or attacks on federal lands.

Also notice how quiet it is from the usual suspects? Where is Hollywood in this? A couple of musicians but half of them are just yelling at Trump and not solving a thing. Biden is doing things from a safe distance but again it's the same crap he and Obama talked about during their terms so it's easier to just attack Trump. Funny how it's easier to just attack Trump than come up with solutions.

Are you putting this forth as some sort of measured, rational response? Last I heard, rioters and looters tend to target businesses, not private homes.

But hey, I'm sure this will fuel the fantasy of the George Zimmermans of the world... He's probably on his way to Polk County as we speak.

What part? The gist of the thread is why there is no executive leadership and I brought up the fact that the President doesn't have much power here and Congress doesn't have that much more. Police is a state matter and the federal government can't enforce much outside of telling a state either clean up your act or we pull your funding for infrastructure improvements or Medicare reimbursements. All Congress can do is control the purse strings but that can be a slippery slope.

Other than that, when you view the national archives on riot and civil disturbances, there was a ten-fold increase during the Obama administration not seen since the 1960s and 70s. Some of this can be blamed on the Age of Social Media. But even then, it's a different world today. Where did riots occur after the Rodney King video aired on national TV? Pretty much local to the area. There was no national rioting anywhere. Or was there. There were actually riots in 5 cities, including Atlanta resulting in 59 deaths and 2,300 injuries, far far far worse than what we have seen so far the past few days.

Ok, got it. Trump is powerless and it’s all Obama’s fault.

Even if trump were powerless to help the situation (he's not), is it too much to ask that he not pour rocket fuel onto the fire?

The Bishop of the church Trump used for his photo op sees the fraud we have in the oval.
