Seems like a lot of headwinds to announce now but he is a contrarian. He might lose even more luster if he waits. Last year I’d have bet $50 he wasn’t running. Trump expected to announce 3rd bid for White House Former President Donald Trump is expected to announce Tuesday night that he is running for president in 2024, marking his third bid for the White House. Speaking at a rally in Ohio last week, Trump told supporters, "I'm going to be making a very big announcement on Tuesday, November 15, at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida."
Like a third grader using filler words to hit that 100-word thesis threshold, he will "very, very, very, probably run for President in 2024".
I would not be surprised if he delays. If nothing else gives him more hype and exposure in the media.
He can’t delay. Every day he delays means another day for DeSantis to become entrenched as the leading man. He needs to stave off the challenge now, or it will be too late (and it probably is already too late, because now even Trumpians are sick of his lying, Self-interested, egocentric, third grade actions).
Considering Trump's worldview which has nothing to do with their actual positions on policy the list would probably include Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger, Brian Kemp, Bradford Raffensperger and Ron DeSantis. I would add that Mike Pence would probably be another possibility because he placed his constitutional duty above loyalty to Trump.
And they very well may be correct. Besides his strategy of emptying the field of rivals and his desire to regain the spotlight from Ron DeSantis, Trump's most significant motivation in announcing his candidacy is probably the belief that a formal announcement that's he's running will save his sorry ass from an indictment.
I hear this all the time, but I don’t understand the legal significance of his running and the impact that has on an indictment. Is there a statute that protects an official presidential candidate from prosecution?
I think it's a matter of custom rather than a statute. Trump is probably hoping that he could at least delay the process by forcing Merrick Garland to appoint a special counsel to avoid the appearance of political bias rather than having the DOJ directly handle the investigation and probable prosecution.
