Will the House and Senate be able to extend unemployment for a month or a few? Will there be another round of stimulus checks? What happens if one or neither of these assistance programs isn't renewed?

    August.

    OK.

    I doubt another stimulus.

Unemployment has a chance. And IMO should be extended.

    We’ll hit 130K.

All social media that isn’t meat loaf recipes will stop for fear of litigation.

And don’t try to sneak tofu into the recipe. You have personally offended me, and I went to grad school with a butt ton of lawyers.

Back to Normal with protocols to protect the vulnerable.

It will take time to build back what we destroyed. But we will do it!

We should both extend unemployment and add another stimulus in my opinion. The economic downside of a Great Depression is much bigger than additional debt. That’s just my gut.

It will take time for us to build back what was destroyed, yes, I agree. But I won't be taking any credit for the destruction.

Unemployment should be less than someone was making before being laid off. To pay the same or more to not work is absurd

What's the point in worrying about it? The experts have already signed us up for a second wave this fall, so everybody draw the blinds and keep your noses to the baseboards and your asses in the air!

Even if the unemployment rate is like 30% and many businesses wont be fully open for months? And many wont be quick to rehire? The dubious idea behind the benefits being lower is that people will seek work, I'm not sure how that works when the situation is like what it is now, or in a depression like situation. What you are saying only makes sense in a full employment or close to full employment situation where if you get laid off, finding a new one isn't particularly difficult.

This isn’t like any previous recession/depression as it is self inflicted. The economy and future forecasts are still strong they just need to open the gates. It will never take back off if much of the labor force will lose money by going back to work.

Missing the point. There are not millions unemployed because of a broken economy. It was a decision to turn it off. It will never turn back on if it doesn’t make sense financially to get off unemployment

I've listened to a couple podcasts that basically say that with state unemployment and federal benefits of the CARES Act, unemployed people are making around $45k/yr currently. That is not sustainable since it discourages people to go back to work who make below, about, or slightly more that amount. Is someone making $55K/yr going to go back to work for 40 hours a week for $10k more, basically about $1k more a month, than stay at home? This is about as close to a UBI as we are going to see in the short term.

I've heard some folks talk about doing a payroll tax holiday and an employment bonus of some amount as the federal unemployment benefits ends in order to encourage people to go back to work. The idea is that employed people will be able to take home more of their pay which will make it worth it to them to go back to work.
