My take is this. We can’t get swept by Georgia. Only picking up one Winn puts us in a precarious situation of having to win our first SEC tournament game. 2 of three would be hopeful. The chances that we sweep, Georgia are probably slim.

If we only win one this weekend, we have to win *3* in the sec tourney to stay above 500. If we only win one tourney game, the two following losses put us under 500.

^^^if we only win 1 we would have to win 3 in Hoover to finish above .500.

Ordinarily I would be pretty optimistic regarding winning 2 vs Georgia. However, this is a very hot top 10 Georgia team playing at home.
If the Gators win the series they will definitely deserve a postseason bid. They have already played 4 of the top 5 teams and after Georgia it will be 6 of the top 10, hence the #1 sos. .

Does it have to be 500 or over 500?

Wes posted something earlier that to get an at large record must be above .500 against D1 competition.

With the SEC tournament format, the opening round is single elimination. After that it goes to double elimination up to the semifinals, where it goes back to single elimination. Crazy. That means that if Florida only wins 1 at Georgia, they would be 27-27 and would need to go at least 3-2 in the SEC tournament. With our pitching issues, that seems unlikely.

Not saying that's wrong, I don't know, but seems odd that you can go to a bowl game in football with a .500 record but no postseason in baseball with a .,500 record.

Not a bowl game that means anything(no title chance). you can also go bowling at 5-7 under right circumstances.

I'm with you. We were preseason #2 in the country. It's unbelievable we're looking at possibly not making the tournament.

With that said, if we can just somehow get in, anything can happen. Remember two years ago, Ole Miss was the very last team selected, and they won it all.

NCAA has nothing to do with bowl game selection. And like @jhfxof mentioned, you don't even need to be .500.

Eligibility was the issue not selection. And to say/imply that the NCAA has nothing to do with the process is simply not true.

The only way an under .500 team gets to a bowl is if there are no .500 teams left to fill the spots. I believe there was all of 1 team last bowl season with a losing record.

    Right circumstances? Funny.
Basically if everybody else sucked and didn't have at least a .500 record you mean

Yes, they technically have documentation that matches the current system. My point is they don't drive the bus like they do in other sports. It's a completely different animal.

Please, believe it. While there is plenty of whining on this board, there is even more hope that things will go well. I can see how that might be annoying to someone who has recognized the futility of that hope. Still, if you read the board, the hope will be there. Maybe a little board vacation will get you through to the beginning of hopeful posts about the 2025 season.

and have high enough APR.. Wasnt sure exact reasons, why i just said right circumstances..

No teams should be in post season under .500 ..overall (or in conference IMO.)
Yet another reason why autobids, if must have them, should go to reg season champ,,not a 20-35 team that got for a week.. Very similar to my post season vs post season theory..;)

Since I had to look....herre are 'right circumstances"

If there are not enough eligible teams to fill all the bowl slots, additional teams may be selected, according to the following priorities, which must be applied in descending order:[2]

    1. Teams which would have met the eligibility criteria if not for the fact that they had one win against an FCS team that did not meet the scholarship requirement and no waiver was granted.[3]
    2. Teams which played 13 games during the regular season and finished with a 6–7 record.[3]
    3. Teams in their second year of reclassification from FCS to FBS football.[3]
    4. Teams with at least 5 wins and no more than 7 losses, in order of their Academic Progress Rates (APRs).[3]
