There must be someplace up dere that can getcha a Maid Rite doncha know?
Up here, it's more about Pastys.
Have you had Lutefisk yet? My grandparents used to make a Swedish variation of it they called "Cill". Raw fish soaked in lye. Most disgusting dish ever.
What the hell is THAT??
It's a foul, nasty Minnesota/Iowa contraption that for some reason the natives love. Like lutefisk. You don't want to even know what lutefisk is
Finding a really good Cuban sandwich is one of the things I miss after moving to Kentucky. I've had some decent ones here but none like I could get at the mom and pop Cuban places in Florida.
Next time I am in Cuba (Spring), I will send a few pics. Travel there is a breeze from here.
My father's side is Swedish and for many years, we included one plate of lutefisk at Christmas. I tried it once. Put it right there w chitlins.
Really? That's right down the street... That sounds like a place on Virginia Avenue...
I'll be at La Familia Tuesday with a buddy who is also a Cuban Sandwich devotee
What time? I may just join you!
not sure yet, depends on when WBK practice ends
Im angry with myself for clicking on this thread as I’m on a flight to Boston and it will be 3 more hours before I’m eating in Italian food in the North End, while visiting my daughter.
I made it to La Familia for lunch today. NOT TOO IMPRESSED. Mostly it was because of the young man working the counter. He was a total jerk. I have a hearing problem... I had to get aggressive with the young man.
Food was OK. Won’t be back though.
Cuban sandwich nazi
There are no good "Cuban" sandwiches in Cuba. Been there done that. Cuban sandwiches did not originate in Cuba.
Of course, they are a Cuban/American invention from Tampa (I from St Pete before moving Mexico.) It is a Texmex kind of thing. Just thought it was amusing as I visit Cuba from time to time.
sorry you had a bad experience I'm headed there this week and next before Terry packs it in for good
In my opinion, the greatest one I've ever eaten is the Cubano at "Cochon Bakery" on Tchoupitoulas in New Orleans.
I've eaten Cuban's at so many restaurants......but there is nothing like the Cochon Cubano.
If you are ever in New Orleans, where there are so many wonderful places to eat, it is totally worth it to try.
It is one of those life-changing meals, you will not forget it.
The best, Jerry, the best.
