Did I miss something ? Is that kid hurt ? He’s been basically nonexistent the last few weeks. Passing up open shots etc. if something is wrong with him I really wish we’d start Okaru or some other option. I really like Locke, that kid knows how to ball but somethings up. Can anyone help fill me in

Okauru needs to start to getting his minutes and vice versa. His shooting had been awful for some time now. Like early season Hudson awful.

Didn't realize his 3 Pt% had dropped off so much, but yeah it's obvious he's struggling. I guess it's even rubbing off on his shot. Kind of hard to make judgement on the medical staff and coaches without knowing what his injury was, but after dealing with it for like half the season and with the performance drop off makes you wonder why "rest" wasn't an option. Could he have been 100% if shut down for a few weeks? Or is this something that requires surgery and he's just playing through? Obviously at this point might as well finish as best he can, but back in January I wonder if shutting down for awhile was the better option.

Locke didn’t shoot worth a lick yesterday, but he played a really solid game otherwise; tough defense, steals, rebounds, few turnovers, good decisions, no stupid plays.

Also, let's not forget this kid is a true freshman and he could be getting a little tired. May not be the case, but could be. Shooters need their legs and his may be gone, combined with an injury.

True, even a hobbled locke still deserves to play, clearly. No point in shutting him down now. I just wonder if there was a way to get him back to 100% during the late season push if they had shut him down for a period in January. But I presume they must know for a fact whatever his deal is, just getting 2 or 4 weeks rest wouldn't have been enough to fully heal?

I mean it's great a guy is tough and playing through pain, but over the course of a long season that isn't always the smartest thing. But like I said, only the medical staff and Locke himself know for sure what they are dealing with.

My guess is that Okauru is going to get plenty of minutes in the LSU game. Can't expect freshmen, especially hurt ones, to play back-to-back games with high productivity.

I saw a mention of hip injury but whatever it is I'm puzzled because he seems to move fine. If his shooting is off because of injury then upper body makes more sense.

He seems to be laboring a bit. I wouldn't rule out hip, or foot (plantar fasciitis always comes to mind for me as someone that has dealt with it in the past), or groin, or back, or any number of things. I don't think he's moving as well as he was early in the season. That much is obvious. Legs are important to shooters too - if he feels it or even if he's just thinking about feeling a "twinge" just a little bit it could be messing up his shot just a little.

As @akaGatorhoops often alludes to, it seems the UAA admin hamstring our coaches. Plus, Hipaa laws limit disclosure?

In all the cryptic information given, I believe all we know is that it is hip related, will be dealt with in the offseason, would not be worsened by playing, and would not be helped with rest. Best guess is there will be a 'procedure' in the offseason.

He has been hurt, yes, but there is also the dreaded freshman wall most kids hit. He is there. But he contributes in so many other ways. Not only do teams have to worry about him from the arc, but he defends, hits his free throws, and doens't turn the ball over.

Since we are still on the bubble, I'd play him today, but sit him for the remaining SEC games if we win.
