Morbid, but supposedly making them more efficient. The points of course drives competition. But then pilots use the points to buy equipment, thereby getting equipment to where it’s needed and effectively used. Also their DoD uses the data for battlefield stats and mapping. .

“Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Transformation launched a project in late 2024 called Army of Drones Bonus, or informally, “e-points”. The concept is simple: every unit that eliminates Russian military targets using drones and provides video proof receives a set number of points. These points can then be exchanged through a dedicated system for new drones, whether FPVs, bombers, or other types. The scoring system puts a value on every hit:

    • 6 points for eliminating an enemy soldier

    • 20 points for damaging a tank

    • 40 points for destroying a tank

    • Up to 50 points for eliminating a mobile rocket system, depending on its caliber”

And maybe now they fear that their defense has to stretch much further with same resources...planes and ships and even troops far from the front can no longer be aggregated and assumed safe.

Or do so at your own peril...

Is it remotely possible that this could be the really bad things that Trump was talking about holding back? Has Ukraine been sitting on this waiting US approval and the rocket attacks after the call pissed Trump off enough to allow it to happen? US has to deny knowledge but it's interesting timing and targeting.

LOL - I know you lost all credibility on this topic like over two years ago when you were wrong about Ukraine being on the verge of defeat for the 300th time, but this is all all-timer. Why did you feel the need to post this rationalization of such a successful strike by Ukraine? It's almost like you're rooting for the Russians...

Crazy how this guy was in Ukraine 2 days ago, and now Russian long-range bombers were hit by drones. The same Russian long-range bombers that are required to be visible by agreements between the US and Russia.

like the people responsible for planning, constructing, and executing the atttack couldn't figure out which planes were flying to which fields by putting some rando sitting at a nearby cafe? the intel on where planes were is likely the smallest tactical challenge they faced by far

the results of the patriot shortage are showing. this blood is on Trump for cutting off the resupply

no way of guaranteeing, but these weren't making it through with accuracy at nearly the rate they are now, and it isn't because the russians built a better mousetrap

‘It was an Iskander’: Ukraine’s Ground Forces confirm circumstances of deadly Russian missile strike on training unit

The attack, which occurred on June 1, resulted in at least 12 soldiers killed and more than 60 wounded as of 12:50 p.m., the Ground Forces said.

He noted that a temporary working group has been formed to “investigate the causes and circumstances that led to this tragedy.”

Sarantsev stressed that if any officials are found guilty, regardless of their rank or past achievements, they will be held accountable.

“There were no formations or mass gatherings of personnel,” the Ground Forces said in a separate statement. “Once the air raid signal was announced, most of the personnel were in shelters.”

As you say, a STUNNING military victory for Ukraine. An unbelievable covert operation.

If the toll is really 40 or 41 aircraft, many of which were strategic bombing assets, western military pundits suggest this knocks out up to 34% of the Russian Strategic Bomber force. And as you mentioned, they do not manufacture these aircraft anymore, it's not simply a matter of replacing them on a production line. Satellite imagery I have seen so far today shows more damage than the video's from yesterday, supporting the claim.

This opens up a security nightmare for Russian Truck traffic and obviously military aircraft assets security. Ukraine just proved geography and distance no longer make Russian Military assets invulnerable.

In terms of psychology this is a big "W" for Ukraine and a big "L" for Russia.

Yes, it is true this may not immediately effect the results of territorial battles on the ground but it will reduce Russia's ability to launch cruise missiles.
Combine that with (you would know better than me) but with a fleet of 120 -125 of such aircraft, how many are actually operational? Certainly a % have downtime related to maintenance, wear and tear and such, and, if I understand correctly these are OLD air frames. Russian sortie counts will inevitably go down.

All of which just keeps increasing the cost of this disastrous special military operation. BTW, I am seeing several Western sources suggesting Russian combat personnel losses are approaching 1 million, which is a STAGGERING statistic.

Yeah, Ukrainian media and military bloggers should be more honest in their reporting, perhaps by using better wording such as “bigly” or “best attack of all time” or “destruction like you have never seen”. This will instantly make them more credible.

I don’t have any more knowledge than you, but I doubt Ukraine informed our government of its intentions on this one. I don’t think they would have informed a Biden/Harris Administration either. That milquetoast Jake Sullivan would have lost control of his bowels and done everything he could to stop it.

The Ukrainians live by the saying it is better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission. And they know the US is risk averse when it comes to this conflict. It took Khatkiv two plus weeks of getting shelled before Biden and Sullivan allowed the AFU to shoot into Russia in the Ops Box in the North this time last year.

To me, this is right up there with “Russia will be out of missiles within a week.” As with the missiles, I suspect we do not know the true number of capable jets Russia has.

I'm fairly certain that Zelenskyy specifically excluded the U.S. from knowing about this attack, between Trump's tendency to talk too much, and his affinity for the Russian dictator.

There may be some newer missiles that we have not given Ukraine that they could use against Russia.
