Found this interesting Vanderbilt tried adding an extra game to their schedule, in hopes of landing a College Football Playoffs spot
Bama, JMU and Tulane in, vandy, notre dame and Texas out??? Screw the PO's. May as well have kept thr final 4 set up.
The correct playoff number is 8- they went with 12 for the revenue- and don’t be surprised if they expand to 16 for next season
JMU and Tulane are in because that is the rule. The 5 highest ranked conference champions have automatic bid. Not JMU or Tulane's fault the ACC champion has 5 losses and is not ranked in top 25. Now Bama being in it and others being left out like ND over Miami comes down to what the committee values most, strength of schedule, good loss vs. Bad loss, conference record vs overall record. I sure there are some teams who have an argument that they deserved it more than Bama.
Well, OM already beat Tulane badly this year. I think it will be somewhat closer this time. We shall see.
Notre Dame had gone 1-2 against currently ranked teams. Bama won 4 in a row against ranked teams. FSU caught fire in one game and then flamed out. Notre Dame needs to seriously think about joining a conference if they want to guarantee to be in the CFP in the future.
Nope, unfortunately as part of the memorandum of understanding that was signed last year guarantees that the playoff is at least 12 teams 2026 and beyond and Notre Dame will be guaranteed a spot if they are in the top 12 of the rankings starting next year… Complete BS but of course they want to protect ND.
Well that would be an argument for “X’s and O’s” over “Jesse and Joes” wouldn’t it? Of course you could say we lost to FSU at the end of the 96 championship season and then DESTROYED “straight up blow out” FSU in the Sugar Bowl 1996 championship but that game down to BS refs didn’t it? (@ Zook Field that is).
I'm hopeful for one step further. If Tulane beats Ole Miss, then they play Georgia in New Orleans. That's the game this place will want to see Tulane upset all of college football.
2 very close losses. ND looked like a top 4 team at the end of the season. Bama, you never know what you’re going to get from one week to the next. Point being, an argument can be made for either. The CFP should never have expanded. Pretty much everyone is in agreement on the top 4.
Last year's finals had #8 OSU beating #7 Notre Dame for the title. Seeds 1-4 all lost their first game.
Anthone Lott, quoted to the camera as he went back onto the field at the Sugar Bowl for the team photo after the game...I still have the VCR of the Sunshine Network's hours-long roving camera" in the postgame locker room after that Sugar Bowl, going onto the field for the photos, etc. I recall Danny was moving gingerly through the locker room like a man that had sustained a beating.
