Softball won't be included in the 2024 Olympics, maybe the 2028 Olympics. Good luck to Aubree Monroe, Kelsey Stewart, and Michelle Moultrie.

Praying Beth Mowins isn't announcing. She was just on in the Japan/Aussie match and it was horrible! :emoji_confounded:

Don't be so hard on poor Beth. She always mentions the Gator players and Tim Walton.

There are too many old players on this team. Osterman is 38, Abbot is 35. I think Garcia is the youngest at 24. My daughter loves softball a lot, but she doesn't have a lot of interest in players who were all dominant before she was in kindergarten. Part of what makes softball intoxicating is the joy the players seem to have -- the cheering, the often over-the-top enthusiasm. The USA played like pros out there, and I found excitement nearly missing from the game. The Olympics are a great chance to increase awareness of the sport and get potential kids excited about it, but that's not going to happen if the people playing look like their mom.

Also, Beth kept saying Ali Aguilar went to UF.

I also liked the 18 year old pitcher from New Jersey on the "Italia" team. She is enrolled at Kentucky.

Abbott and Osterman are the best pitchers and should be on that team 100%. Especially Abbott. I agree there was like zero energy in that game. There was no crowd, but AU had no crowd last year and there was still energy. Players like Ally Carda, Valerie Arioto , Bubba Nickles and some others have no business on that field. You can't tell me this is the best team that the US has to offer when you have players like Amanda Lorenz, Jessica Warren, and Jocelyn Alo not on the roster. I know she had her struggles at times but I still also would say that Kelly Barnhill is a better pitcher than Carda or Garcia, but they are there because they are more than just pitching. Ricketts is an alternate that should be on the main team over Carda who is there because of flexibility. Lauren Haeger would be better in that flex player position than Carda or Garcia IMO.

Well most of those old players and some of the younger ones should be gone before softballs next appearance in the Olympics.

So OU and Texas possibly joining the SEC would make for some really good softball. I personally hope it doesn’t happen because they just aren’t SEC schools, but OU/Florida consistently would be awesome. And then there would be no more inflated stats.

US just beat Canada 1-0 and are now 2-0. Not much hitting, but Abbott and Osterman have been dominant with 2 shutouts. Probably helps a bit to have pitchers that are 6'3"" and bring the heat.

Yea who wants to watch softball when we can watch more rhythmic gymnastics or maybe fencing.
You'll be happy, softball is not in 2024 Olympics .
