This note is from last night, July 1.
Made it to Columbus today and got to see the second U-19 game and the second National Team game.
In the U-19, Charla Echols, had two singles, and in her third at bat, she hit a liner over 3rd, but the 3rd baseman jumped and made a good catch, preventing 2 runs from scoring.
Julia Cottrill was the DP, but had a rough day, hitting into 2 double plays.
    Rylee Trlicek did not appear.
The U-19 beat Chinese Taipei, 7-1.

In the National Team second game, Aubrey Monroe started at C, Michelle Moultrie in RF, and Kelsey Stewart at 3B.
Aubree hit a hard double in her first at bat.
Michelle and Kelsey didn't do anything at bat.
In the third inning, Team USA loaded the bases, and Kirsti pinch hit for Michelle, and hit a 3 run double clearing the bases. The ball hit off the top of the fence and came back.
I left after the 4th inning, I know, but drove from Gainesville this morning, and it was hotter than blazes out there.

At U-19 game, I sat beside Kathryn Sandercock's mom. She will be a sophomore at Florida State this fall. Very nice lady, who doesn't get FL/FSU rivalry. She said they root for Florida whenever they are not playing FSU.
She did say she met Coach Walton in Paris at a World Cup game. The U-19 team saw the match between Scotland and Argentina on the parents' dime. But, she was very complimentary.

That's it for day 1. Will do better tomorrow.

This was a very good day for USA Softball today.
First, let's get some name pronunciations cleared up. These pronunciations are from family members of the players.
Charla Echols-first name pronounced Sharla-source Mother.
Julia Cottrill-last name pronounced Cot'trill-source paternal grandmother.
Rylee Trlicek-last name pronounced Trillacheck-source aunt and paternal grandmother.
In the first game, U-19 played the Philippines. Echols 3B, Cottrill, and Trlicek on the bench.
Megan Faraimo in the circle. Strikes out the side in top of 1st.
Megan is #1 recruit in the country and committed to UCLA
Echols grounds out 1-3 bottom of 1st.
Jada Coleman hits a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 2nd. 2-0 USA
Echols with sacrifice fly to left to plate a run in bottom of 3rd.
Bailey Dowling hits a triple to drive in a run. She is one of 2 on the U-19 team who will be seniors in HS in the fall.
She is from Illinois, but I met her uncle, who lives in Mt. Dora. She is smooth and can hit. Be a nice replacement for Sophia in another year.(Not that anyone can truly replace Sophia)
    Jasmine Sievers drives in Dowling.
6-0 USA after the top of the 4th.
Echols doubles to left center and drives in another run. 7-0 at the end of the 4th.
Philippines does not score in the top of the 5th. Ballgame.
Final USA U-19 7-0. International rules are up 7 after 5.
To recap future Gators-Echols is 1 for 2, with a sacrifice fly, and 2 RBI.
She is also smooth at 3B.

The second game was U-19 vs China
    Echols-3B Cottrill-C Trlicek-P
The first 4 innings were fairly uneventful, except for Trlicek's pitching which was excellent.
In the bottom of the 4th, the USA shortstop muffed 3 straight ground balls. They were not easy plays. The first one was smoked on the ground, but right at her. That was called a hit, but the next two were errors. Forget who was playing SS, but it was not Dowling.
On the second grounder they did get a FC.
Then SS error puts runners on 1st and 2nd.
Trlicek bears down and gets a SO for the second out.
Cottrill overthrows Trlicek, and runner advances to 3rd.
Then Trlicek induces a weak grounder back to the mound and throws her out at first.
Top of the 5th was unreal.
Godwin PHs and reaches on an error and then steals 2nd; Husky sacrifices her to 3rd.
    Wallace walks.
Echols, on 3 & 2, scorches a grounder past the 1st baseman into the right field corner for a triple and 2 RBIs.
    2-0 USA
Dowling singles on a grounder to 2nd base and Echols scores. 3-0 USA.
Sievers singles through the left side with Dowling to 2nd.
Coleman singles on a bunt to the pitcher, loading the bases.
Cottrill singles on a line drive to center field scoring two more. Coleman advances to second. 5-0 USA.
Allchin doubles to left center, scoring Coleman, and Cottrill to 3rd. 6-0 USA.
Godwin strikes out for 2nd out.
    Godwin pinch runs for Cottrill.
Huskey doubles to left field scoring Godwin. Allchin thrown out at the plate for the 3rd out. 7-0 USA.
From there, it was all Trlicek. K looking, GO to 2nd, GO to third. Ballgame.
    USA U-19 7-0.
Recapping the Future Gators: Echols-1 for 3, 2 RBI, Run Scored.
Julia Cottrill-1 for 3, 2 RBI, Would have scored a run if not pinch run for.
Rylee Trlicek-5.0 IP, 2 Hits, 1 Walk, No Runs.
So, think about this. 5 of the 7 runs were accounted for by Future Gators. And, 6 would have been if not for the pinch runner. All of the pitches were thrown by a Future Gator.
Folks, we were not playing the minor leagues today. We shut out the #13, and #8 National Teams in the world with our U-19 team. And, future Gators played an outstanding part in this. The future is bright, fellow Gators. Enjoy.

After the second U-19 game they had an autograph opportunity. I am not an autograph hound, but I did go and shake the hand of each of the players and thank them for representing our country with their talents. Each was very gracious. Three were very gracious.
He reminds me of Delanie. But she has more power.

OMG -- that must have been amazing! Wow!

It's way cool that in SB you can get to know -- at least superficially -- the player's family. I'm not sure that's a thing in any other sport.

    Scrappy, where are ya?!?

Immediately after a questionable "send" by the third base coach resulting in an out, Michelle Moultrie comes in as a pinch hitter and crushes the first pitch for a high-hopper through the infield, for the walk-off win.

    GO GATORS!
    GO USA!!

OMG -- in the U-19 game, that annoying LSU fan ( who is Shemiah Sanchez' brother) is right behind the plate, up to his usual "look at me" shenanigans. I was hoping that Sanchez's graduation meant we'd never have to see him again.

    Miami, OK
I saw him at the WCWS. He was actually rooting for us in our game and then he went over and rooted for bama in their first game. He was rooting for the SEC. Also, saw several LSU people tailgating outside the stadium before the games as well.
